It was a hard one for Kaiser, hoping they can source the spares but things must be getting tight for everyone at the tail end of the field now.

Weather doesn't sound too bad for Saturday, high temp of 87* (31* C) and 10 mph winds. Of the fast cars on Friday; Daly, Pigot, Rossi, Carpenter, Bourdais, Andretti, and Power have gotten seemingly favorable early spots in the qualifying order. Will be interesting to see if the track slows down significantly in the heat of the day, and if it improves later.

Fred is really struggling, they need to pull something out the bag. He took to Indy like a duck to water last time, now it's like he has forgotten all that.

Alonso would probably be fine if he was in an Andretti again. McLaren have very little experience at this. I still don’t really understand their decision to go it alone, and with a one car team. Maybe if they’re playing the long game, but they’re not going to be winning this year.

If he really wants to win Indy to complete his triple crown, he has to get as much info about the car as possible, and the team has to buil experience. Whoever said that (Montoya I think) was absolutely right, IMO. Maybe next year, since he stops the WEC programme? |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no way to watch online if you're outside the US, without some tomfoolery, right?

Can someone explain the “Lane 1”/“Lane 2” thing?

I don't get that either.
One withdraws the time they already have, the other one doesn't. I don't get why you would withdraw your time if you keep it and still improve. Andretti didn't withdraw his time, wnet again and then cancelled his attempt anyway. Hanley withdrew his time, and then went again and improved. I don't know why they didn't keep what they had EDIT: ugh. Danica Patrick has arrived and they just HAVE to have her on TV instead of the cars. Why oh why? I hope she won't be there on race day. Alonso, Hinch, Karram, O'Ward, Chilton and Kaiser on the outside looking for a fast run tomorrow. Only 2 over 230 average, Piggot and Dixon. Should be a good Bump Day and Fast 9, although the Fast 9 bothers me a little. They should earn it today. And NBCSports need to shut it about how much better they do Indy than ABC did. EVERY run was interrupted by commercial the last 40 minutes. And Danica adds nothing to the conversation, she's the useless color guy agreeing with everything. |

Also, do you have to run today to run in the Bump Day proceedings tomorrow? Didn't look like Kaiser and Juncos got the car finished to run today, no time on the board. But Alonso was in Lane 1 at the gun so guessing his time was withdrawn as well, although he was bumped to 31 if he'd kept the time.

That was very exciting! Not looking forward to the race, I think it's gonna be a repeat of random spins and no overtaking besides right after a caution

He was only at risk if he did get out in time and was having a slow run. If we apply that logic to Alonso and all others I think their current times still stand, so Alonso 31st etc ... |

Actually Piggot and Power were the two fastest qualifiers. Dixon starts 18th. Really looking like Hinchcliffe could miss the race again this year. Tough day for SPM, Carlin and Juncos. |

Pretty sure the time is withdrawn if the car takes the green flag, possibly if the car leaves the pit lane. They don't want qualified cars in Line 1 that intend to go out and do 3 laps and wave off, just to prevent someone else from getting a run in. Rahal could have pulled out of line and kept his time but once he started the run he was no longer qualified. Risky but it really paid off, moving him up about 10 starting positions. |

Especially not NBC today, calling out numbers different than what the screens said. It was a cluster this afternoon if you only listened but a great show and stressful, Indy for the pole and the field should be.
Think it will be a fun show tomorrow and it sounded like everyone thinks there will be weather issues so look out. Apparently Bump Day gets precedence over Fast 9 in the event of weather delays, as it should. |
