OK, I've got two points of view with the GT1 class.
They should either be as near as dammit stock, with just the basics required for racing. The cars could be allowed more power to ensure they are still darn quick. What I cannot understand is the current GT1 rules format were manufactuers spend millions to build super expensive cars, only to have their performance cut (for whatever reason) semmingly year on year. Costs never seem to reduce though. If the manufactuers are going to spend this much cash, at least give them something to aim for, and a real challenge to reach the 3.55 ACO 'limit'. Thats why I'd like to see smaller, lighter, less poweful GT1 cars which allow more technical freedom. The manufactuers could then be allowed to devleop the cars as much as they like (as in DTM/JGTC) without the worry of the cars constantly being pegged back. |

Add 35 kilos to the C5 Corvette and the Prodrive Ferrari because they were too fast. well OK...
But then, if I understand things correctly, allow the C6 Vette and the Prodrive Aston Martin to run without ballast? That's plain stupid. And concerning GT1 technical evolution, the Aston Martin must be closer to the earlier Lister and Panoz GT1 cars then to the Viper, the previous GT2 standard. They're becoming prototypes with a mandated large chassis and prototype-like airflow management under their mandated large carbon fiber silouhette bodywork... Free up a few more ties to the originating road car in the regs like cockpit size, suspension type and aero, and you get prototypes close to JGTC but with real power and performances to chase down the LMPs. |
