don't any one buy that carthat was shown at Donington. Some bloke was in it and drove after stalling it about 3 times, crunching the gears repeatidly and very loudly, nearly running over Danny Watts - it was painfull to watch.

The press release from Donington, 4/10/02 -
New Formula Renault V6 Launched In UK An all-new international single-seater racing car was launched by Renaultsport at Donington Park today (Friday, 4th October), the Formula Renault V6 boasts leading edge technology some of it coming directly from Formula One. Powered by the same six cylinder 3.5 litre, 24-valve engine used in the Renault Vel Satis road car, the Formula Renault V6 has 320bhp on tap making it the perfect ante chamber category to Formula One. Orders for all 36 cars are expected to be taken up very quickly as over 60 established racing teams attended the launch at Donington Park. The first championship for this brand new category will take place as a joint headline on the Eurosport Super Racing Weekend package alongside FIA GTs and Touring Cars and will be televised live across Europe in 2003. It is planned that each of the 10 race meetings will feature two Formula Renault V6 races, the first on Saturday featuring a mandatory pitstop for tyre changing (not refuelling) whilst on Sunday there will be a sprint race after a rolling Indy-style start. Although highly cost-effective at a selling price of just 130,000 Euros complete with engine, the Formula Renault V6 is packed with technology including a six-speed sequential gear shift mounted on the steering wheel as in Formula One and an electronically controlled clutch which does away with the pedal. It looks the nuts, doesn't it :-) They have their marketing department in gear, Renault. Got to admire them for that. They are in danger of being the biggest name in single seaters if they don't watch out

Olá Luis -NME- (still looking forward to meet you)...
I've just talked with a Single Seatter Portuguese Team Manager that has some close connections with some guys from Renault. The budget will be 400.000 Euros (30.000 goes for the costs of the chassis+engine). The idea is to have 1 Team from each of the European countries. For example, 2 UK teams will only be allowed if the organizers can't fill the grid (34 cars) with at least one Team from each european country. Renault is putting the car in the wind tunnel this weekend. |

Great, so if Carlin and Fortec want to run the car, only one of them will be allowed inbecause we have to make room for some crappy team from another country.

No, bigger countries get more entries.
I think that France, UK and Italy are allowed three or four teams. |

Are Renault trying to develop a coherent ladder system to F1, are they just looking at the possible profits, or both?

both, I think, with Flavio standing by, ready to pluck the talents out, get them signed up and kept away from all the others, and corner the young driver market. Or is that me being sceptical/cynical. And what IS the difference between sceptical and cynical?

Mr.Jinxx is closer to the truth than you'd like to think.Any way SuperRenault is struggling to get off the ground. The timing is all wrong and takes no account of global economic conditions. It's too expensive at the moment and unless it comes in significantly below an F3 budget drivers just won't go to an unknown quantity.Flavio's boys like Kovalinnen and Carbone will have to do it whether they like it or not!I think Renault will be forced to heavily finance alot of drives in order to get decent drivers in the championship.

I agree. Flavio is doing the snapping up of talent at a young (ie cheap) age, but he's not the first. Just the only one really doing it at the moment. McLaren and Eddie Jordan have done it in the past. I also agree with FSuper Renault. The cars look great. They are presumably a step UP from F3 technically, but it will take a while for them to be seen as such. Therefore Renault should subsidise them heavily to bring costs below F3 for a couple of years until it takes off. Then consider withdrawing the subsidy, as a series with quick F3 type cars but a more level playing field establishes itself as a better proving ground for talented drivers. But without a subsidy from Renault, who would voluntarily choose FSR over F3?

Nobody - and that's why it's struggling.I think Renault would like FSR to be seen as a F3000 alternative and on that basis the costs make sense. However, it isn't on the all important Grand Prix support package(yet)and therefore finds itself in no mans land.
