Good point, Fire. It would have been smart to have AJ run he whole Busch season, like Ganassi is doing with JPM.
What mystifies me about Toyota is how strong Blaney has been thus far. He had a top 5 car at California and looks like a contender for tomorrow's race as well. The other Toyota teams, with the exception of Vickers top 10 at California (one of his best tracks by the way), are way off the pace. Even Blaney's teammate Mayfield, who not too long ago qualified for the Chase twice, has lagged well behind. Blaney has had a journeyman career. I doubt that he is really this much better than the other Toyota drivers. What have Blaney and his crew chief figured out that the other Toyota drivers and crew chiefs have not? Or has Blaney simply adapated to the Camry exceptionally well? You make good points about Toyota, kingfloopy. They can forget about relying on the top 35 in points until midseason, and even that will only be possible if the teams in question actually produce a few solid runs like Vickers did at California. With Toyota apparently lacking speed (the second fastest Toyota in yesterday's qualifying was 44th!, having 1 or 2 Toyotas in the field may be a common occurence once Jarrett runs out of his provisionals. Hazza, for the first five races of the season the points from last year are used but after that the current season's points are used (which is why there was never any concern over JPM missing races since his team was in the top 35 last year. Of course, JPM has proven to be a superb qualifier in cup thus far with runs of 4th, 9th, and 4th). They will change after each race. There is no 5 race freeze, if you will. I hope that helps. |

A number of drivers, especially Tony, are upset with Goodyear for bringing a hard tire to Vegas. Tony wanted to see a softer tire with more grip although the speeds would have been higher. Actually, Tony had strong words for Goodyear and wishe that Nascar would replace them with Hoosier. |

Hoping Kenny Wallace has a good race - not many underdog teams left to root for! The #4 team did well getting into the field too.

Lots of criticism of Goodyear's tire for the Vegas race as well as criticism over the new track paving.
"The race will suck," said Kevin Harvick, who finished seventh. "The paving is awful. It's rough. They had some guys that pave parking lots out there doing it. It's pretty awful." Biffle stated that it is like driving on black ice. kahne said that he had to fight the car every lap to prevent from wrecking. It will be difficult to have side by side racing on the track. Stewart stated that the tires are simply awful. |

Don't suppose NASCAR will do much about it, other than have a competition caution a few laps in to see how the tyres are holding up? Sounds like a pretty sorry state of affairs though.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if tonight's race is a repeat of the infamous 2005 Coke 600 at Charlotte (22 cautions for 103 laps, one fourth of the race distance, most of them due to tire failures).

Fabulous rendition of "Star Spangled Banner". The performance was almost cardboard cut-out like.

Any bets on the amount of cautions today? Quick sweepstakes?
I just have bad feeling about this race after the shenanigans so far this weekend. |
