I looked at the downloaded presentation but because I cant read french I am not sure about what is allowed in the 'modification boxes' shown. Until we see a complete set of regs it is hard to see much change from the current regulations and areas that can be improved. The sliding scale for weight is a good thing but still a very small window which essentially writes a rule around what is currently happening. I would like to see them open the engine restrictor sizes a bit more though.

Who is going to fill those slots? There aren't enough pro entries to take them all up. Just as a point, there were no additional GTE-Pro entries. Three additional GTE-AM entries besides the Riley Viper, and two LMP2 entries made up the reserves list. So. If all the GTE-AM cars were to become LMP2, we'd have had 36 P2 cars on track this year. |

Personally I like the split between Pro and Am.
But the rational for merging the class is that amateurs don't need a class of their own...aka not everyone needs to take a trophy home. Some have suggested having a cup for the top amateur driven car, but then that's not much different than what we have now. At the end of the day, the Am class isn't taking entries away from the Pro class, so I don't see what the big deal is if they are split. |

A comment on one of the Radio Le Mans podcasts about some of the new GTE cars being further along in development than you might think has gotten me wondering. Obviously Ford have the car running, but who else has tires on tarmac? Fiorano seems as leaky as a colander so I think we'd have seen the 488GTB if they'd been testing it out in the open.
Also, how much more advanced is the Ford compared to the Aston? Surely the Vantage is getting a little long in the tooth, despite looking completely badass. |

Guessing the FGTLM would have about half the drag the aero brick Vantage does, that'll probably help. |

The AM class is needed I think. At the end of the day, Am's are the ones footing the bill during harder times, so their continuous presence is very important for the sport. There could however be a more distinctive line between PRO and AM. F ex only silver and bronze rated drivers in AM (one gold is currently allowed iirc), and only gold and platinum in PRO.
No leaked images of the 488? I only found some fan made renders. |

If we're going to have an Am class, then maybe a better idea would stop Pedro Lamy running around in a factory Aston Martin, for example.

I think Am needs to be restricted to purely privateer teams with no works backing, makes a mockery of Am when there's factory cars leading the way.

Agree with the last 2 posts. Even Proton runs in AM, which has for many years been more or less a Porsche factory team. Lots of cars currently running in AM should be in PRO.

I would love to see GT3 and GTE merge together. Unification would have so many plus points.

3 second pole difference at Silverstone between Blancpain and WEC GTE. Lets just put both in like the old GT1/GT2 days.

The drivers determine if a car should be in Pro or Am. Proton's lineup is nowhere near as impressive as it used to be. Same applies to JMW and Larbre.

Well the car kinda does too doesn't it? Does it not need to be a year old car again? And the argument of counting the team should not go unnoticed. If we truly want to reward amateur drivers and teams at Le Mans, then allowing teams like Aston Martin to enter full factory efforts with an ex-F1 driver/P1 podium finisher should be questioned.

Cars don't need to be a year old anymore. Essentially what it boils down to is where the money comes from. If an amateur can afford for Aston to run the team, and can afford a Lamy... you're going to see a different looking effort than Team AAI. Really the class shouldn't have non amateurs in it.
I like what PWC does, if an amateur finishes on the pro podium, they get promoted to the pro class. The 98 has dominated this year to the point where you wonder if they're in the right class. |
