Are you not one of the nations pretty ones

(please note the above is a poor attempt at humour and in no way a personal issue with Stig)

I am not sure why the request came for the larger number of marshals - I think it is because they simply underestimated their requirements in a new venue - or perhaps there was a break in communications with the UK team that has been put together to run the evnt.

Either way, I have to say I found it quite amusing to see the original request that the marshals be "Young" and "telegenic" - I was not upset, I simply realised the reason behind the request.

This later request shows they are being more realistic - so let's just recognise that. This is an opportunity for marshals to be part of what seems (on TV) to be a very enjoyable event.

I can understand others feelings and I can take the sarcastic comments (let's face it in the role I play in the marshals club I need to be able to - having a Yorkshireman's thick skin certainly helps).

So please, let those who want to volunteer do so without having to suffer cynical comments - I actually intend to put my volunteering slip in, I'll still be a "young" 59 until January.

If you want to do it - volunteer. If you don't want to do it - don't volunteer! Don't knock something until you've tried it.

I'm volunteering, well I will be once I find that tape measure and persuade the wife to measure my inside leg!

LOL, well they have rescinded the looks factor! (You're both beautiful, really).

In case it's not clear from my post above, I would never criticise those that do volunteer for this, or the Grand Prix, or whatever else takes your fancy. The joy of being volunteers is that it is entirely your choice, and however crass I think the organisers have been, this is still a major motorsport event in this country and I know that the calibre of marshals available in this country means that if action is called for we will be represented in the best way possible.

And despite the rather rude (and I i'd like to point out, tongue in cheek) comments at the start of this post, having worked with both I consider Mike and Chris to be among the best.

Why d'ya think I go around dressed in full overalls and a full face helmet!?

(Note that this is also a poor attempt at humour and I am the first to admit I ain't pretty, also I have no personal issue with blackx)

Joking aside, the reason it's not going to be possible is the accomodation factor. here to wembley is one hell of a commute, and being an impoverished student, I fancy that the nearest possible accomodation may be a bit too pricey. Otherwise I'd have voulenteered yesterday!

(I'm still looking, any suggestions welcome)

Try the YHA at Lee Valley. Its about a 30 minute drive away and should fit in with student budgets!

I suspect it's illegal in Wembley, and probably incurs a congestion charge too.

I'd like to volunteer for this, and I have appeared in two TV commercials although calling myself pretty would be a huge exageration

BUT. can the people who know the area let me know about the congestion zone, parking charges etc, that would need to be taken into account.

I watch the RoC every year on the TV, so it would be fantastic to see it all up close.

Wembley is OUTSIDE the congestion charge zone and I believe the organisers will be providing parking at the remote coach pick up point they will be using

I will not be volunteering for a combination of reasons (including personal disgust at their qualifying criteria) but I would echo Wooley's comments. Go for it if you want to!

Those of you who do get selected will enjoy yourselves I am sure at what could be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Just to sort something out, where exactly IS the pick up point?

oh yeah, gachjoel - I don't fit in the back of my car! could always hire a van and sleep in that though.

Norbert, you could have come and played with Dee and I (oeerr) with combined magnetic powers we could have shown the world what a really big pile up looks like.
I all honestly the original criteria who actually saw the official request? Was something taken out of context? Just a thought, but to be honest. I would have made the criteria previously and now they have slackened it a bit
