The only disappointing thing about this years PI was the non appearance of Bert Skidmore ... love watching that guy race - he is GOOD. And an extremely nice bloke to boot. And the name ... is there a better named race driver ever?

If you saw Spencer Martin in the Yellow Submarine at EC, you would be a convert to Historics forever. Oh, and add the Geoghegan Mustang with Desy Wall doing what it was designed to do - go hard.

Lots of enthusiasm, plenty of smiles, and a prima donna quotient in the single figures.

To see the big collections like the famous Bowdens, Rob Sherrard, Peter Harburg, John Harris is just awesome. They give so much to the sport for so little in return.

If you think the current crop of Group N cars are quick and spectacular to watch , then wait until the new Group U Historic Sports Sedans Pre-1985 start coming on the scene.. I own one of these, the ex Stilwell MK1 Ford Escort still fitted with the Cosworth/Brian Hart BDG engine. I have owned this car since 1985...

In short....Love 'em.

It's getting to the point where there's more F1 action at Phillip Island the week before the AGP.

Group C & A....great stuff, let's hope they grow in numbers and not get bogged down in petty bickering......But if they do, it would be true to form....There seemed to be a lot of that back then too...

The old rusty french car......Let me type that again....The old Rusty French car....The 935....Mate has that got some grunt....Was a shame he broke it in 04 when it turned hard right on the exit of Honda and stuck it in the wall.

I'll drink to that. The bickering and boycotts resulted in less cars at PI in March than last year and a whopping 9 cars at Winton last year and 13 cars (Group A and C combined) at Symonds Plains a couple of weeks ago. This is not good for the categories.

Love the Historics, the first time i saw the Historics was at Qld Raceway back in 2003, and it was wonderful to see Stubber and Tilley battling it out..

In all the rounds ive been too Clipsal, Oran Park, Eastern Creek, Sandown, Winton and Phillip Island, theyre always spectacular to watch, especially when Paul Stubber would drive sideways which was a real crowd pleaser all the time..

I could be wrong here (I think I may have been once before in 1981) but I was told that thing is the fastest car in a straight line on the PI straight ever. Can anybody shed some light on that? Actual data?

Visually, it certainly looks like it.

Heck, even Rusty can lap the thing in 1.36 ... imagine what Bowe or someone could do in it?

Considering it is 12 seconds slower than the lap record holder (Simon Wills Reynard 94D) and 9 seconds slower than Simon Cressey (F3), 3 seconds slower than Craig Lowndes (V8 Supercar) and Paul Stokell (Lamborghini Diablo) it would have to be losing a lot of time elsewhere on the track to lay claim to that record.

Maybe it should be 'visually the fastest but unconfirmed in reality'

True that, Rusty is way off the lap record. Anyone got a radar gun?

That 935 on the badge is not the model its the horse power.

I'm on the fence in this debate, but will go on the record saying it's a nice machine Rusty peddles. All paid for by dirty money..Skye Sands.....its a quarry.

He was faster down the straight than Skidmore in the T286 and Bert was turning 1.30 in that car, I don't think Rusty is the best peddler around the twisty bits ...

12 second difference though would mean he isn;t just slow - he is bloody slow! And Rusty certainly isn't slow around any track. Would be nice to see a radar readout - just think that maybe someone is exagerrating the straight line speed a tad!

It's good to see Wayne Rogerson giving it to some of the big boys in his little black Mazda RX-2 in the Nc races at Eastern Creek.

He was second behind Seton in the last race which I think was a wee bit damp.

Richo RS1600 v Richo Mustang V8

Two (2) Stillwell Motorsport entries at Oran Park, Steve v Jim - Biante series.

They've got some opposition too ...

The two Richos going at it hammer and tongs should be a great spectacle in itself..

does anyone know if there is a Historic catagory, for the old Historic Original cars.. or is the Biante Series the clostest you can get?

Biante is as far as you can get from Historic touring cars. Modern day technology in old looking cars. Group N is closer ..
