I might be there, might not be

All depends whether the date changes as it clashes with BTCC at Rockingham and by that time, i will probably be at uni by then or in the process of going there

I agree. People like JT throw ideas and statements around like mud, just to see what sticks or generates a reaction. That's enterprise and some is probably just negotiation tactics. Without people like JT we'd all be stuck at home with nothing to do.

Volunteering for 2009

If things turn out to be similar to this year (i.e. the BRSCC running the event at Silverstone with me as Chief Marshal) then I'll let everybody know and open my list as soon as I get the word.

It's great that the event is attracting more support (back in 2005 I was alone at Vale for the Friday daylight sessions, even the hairy Dutch Super Cup races) because it means that I can also ask for volunteers to help behind the scenes without the risk of robbing people from the track. This in turn means better support for those who are around the track and will probably encourage even more people to come because it's less of a survival exercise.

There's a 'critical mass' for most meetings and we're getting there for this one. I was told by one of the Clerks that Race Control really appreciated the fact that this year a much greater proportion of incidents could be dealt with under local yellows or a very short SC period (one person might be able to push one undamaged car on smooth level ground, perhaps with the help of the driver, but four - better still eight with some fresh from a proper break - can do a whole lot more in a lot less time).

Having thought about what's happened this year I suggest that people who often marshal at Silverstone, particularly at more than one club's events, may find it more convenient volunteering to the circuit. This applies for all duties, not just what's now called Track Marshalling, because the names for other duties do get passed on to the clubs. Everbody else is probably better off volunteering to the organising club - either direct, at www.marshals.org.uk or via their BMMC regional Comp Sec (if they are a member).

Either way, see you there!

Welcome aboard - no doubt Paul W will help you sort something out, so long as you don't leave it until the last minute.

nice one, whereabouts are you as 30 mins from KH can mean cumbernauld, edinboro, fife or perth??? I know Paul is in polo mint city, I am ayrshire. hopefully we will get something organised, hire a minibus starting from fife and working down towards the M74 might be cheaper than 3 or 4 carloads

maybe you could ask 'captain slow' to drive the mini-bus, at least he'll get at the same time as everybody else.

I can see this van idea getting out of hand. I can also see the Scots (that's with one tee) taking over to ensure the deep fried mars bars

But not if the Scots are put in charge of the stock

PieLady
PS: for anyone unaware, the surname is Scott (with two tees)!!!

Can I be on a promise? I would love to be adopted by the Scottish contingent - but only if I got to wear one of the hats (maybe the Nessie one) rather than a kilt.

Only a year to go, then!!!

Hi and welcome Pete,

Your best bet for BTCC calendar is on the BTCC website.
If it's for marshalling, I'd hang on until the new year for the volunteering forms because they'll be on those.

Perth, the hiring of a mini bus Is something that I personally think should be explored

I am all for anything suggested that will help keep cost down
