And a Silk Cut Triumph Spitfire back in 1985. I remember seeing it in the Car Park at Carrefour (about the same time that Concorde paid a flying visit) and it featured on the official video that year.

I remember a silk cut painted ford estate, think it was a cortina, it was in the campsites for many years in the late eighties early nineties, it was slowly deteriorating and I think it was only used for Le Mans and a few other events. Last year a party of Gulf painted Reliants was accompained by a single silk cut Robin.

Here are some great pictures by john Brooks of the cars in Barcelona.

I agree its a great entry and the series does have promise, however it still has to draw entrys from a wide range of eras and classes. The hope would have to be that in the future it can produce a full grid af cars soley of the Grp 4, 5 and 6(late70's).

Looking forward to 2010 when maybe the ACO do run a race for the cars, if not in June then in July.

Does anyone remember Formula France from I think it was 2002, I think it was 4 a breast down the Mulsanne, I seem to remember Titch and Trussers on Radio Le Mans saying they have never seen anything like it !!!

The 935 to me at least is very much a case of you dont always appriciate the cars when you have got them.

I liked the car in period, but always prefered the underdog, normally the Lancia or Ferrari 512. but now, I just love them.

The smell as they braked for terte rouge, hot turbo spitting flame and brakes squealing, and the feeling you could reach out and touch them.

So glad I had the chance to be there!

Rob, I dont recall the formula France, was that like the pug spyders that raced a few times? TBH I have foregone the morning race for a while unless it was a historic one when as you know, we ambled in from the site.

Titch was long gone from RLM by 2002 Rob. But yes, I remember the race!

After the Renault 5 we had a couple of years of the 21 Turbos before the GTA Alpine.

I think 97 was also a Lambo race?

Its surprising how little help the race programs are trying to look up years gone by!

2003 - Le Mans Legends (pre 1972)

2006 - two races to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first race at LM, the first for cars of 1923 to 1939, and the second for post war cars to 1954.

To answer my own question - I see EI has an item on the Legends race, albeit in French only for the time being.

61 entries and it seems they had to turn some away!

The Aston 214 was a half-hearted attempt at a return to GT racing, based on the DB4. It was designed by Ted Cutting, who was responsible for the DBRs in the late Fifties. Only two were built and they raced at LM in 1963. Drivers included Phil Hill, Lucien Bianchi, Bruce McLaren and Jo Schlesser. Think DB4 Zagato and you'll have a rough idea of what it looks like.

Viscount Downe ran the cars in 64 at Daytona, Spa and the Nurburgring and Mike Salmon entered one at Le Mans.

There was a development, called the 215 and a predecessor, the 212, which was raced at LM in 1962 by Graham Hill and Richie Ginther.

Aston in the late fifties/early sixties always seemed a step behind everyone else: In 1960, a front-engined F1 car when everyone else was changing to mid-engined cars, then a production-based GT car, when Ford were thinking in terms of the GT40 and Ferrari were building the 250LM

P212 and P214 are simply GORGEOUS. As said elsewhere, a step behind everything else at the time, but typically Aston, beautiful to look at. Peter Hardman can pedal one effectively.

Now I know what it looks like, I seem to remember seeing one racing on "Dave" there was a series on classic racing in the states. Thanks for the tip about Mr Turner plenty of information there.
