I wondered why Mark was not there on Sunday - I thought he had done the sensible thing and checked the weather forecast and decided to stay at home..!
Fingers crossed he will be ready for the Finals at Silverstone. |

It was to say the least tricky.
We (HFF1600) were sent out after the HRS's and just as the hurricane started again. As the attached stills from my on board show, the river at Grahame Hill Bend was very wet indeed and visibility all round wasn't great - also see the attached courtesy of Az Edwards - some great pics on his website. according the timing sheets there are 3 cars just behind me! A great welcome back to the realities of racing after a year off. So glad I wore a dark visor to make it look light nighttime and didn't remember to check if it was the anti-fog one. Took two laps for the rain on the inside of the visor to smooth out so that I could at least see my own car! Apologies if I cut across anyone's line but with that visibility combined with mirrors vibrating at 5,500 rpm, the chances of seeing anyone behind were non-existent. I'll post the video on youreatube at some point, although the pedestrian looking pace doesn't do the scariness of the wall of rain any real justice. |

Paul,
Temporarily retired it as the Camaro is proving a great deal of fun ! Thinking of selling it, though. Having one racing car is OK, but having two is the path to the funny farm. Yrs Nick Hey Nick, so what have you done with the GTA? Paul H
|

But Nick . . .the GTA is a 'road' car
If your claim is true it would explain why I've been getting a 'little frustrated' with 3 Cortinas and a Tornado in the Fleet.
Last edited by zefarelly; 25 Sep 2012 at 08:22. |

Truely horrible conditions. Fair play to you all for getting out there and racing though and to the marshals for braving it out there all day, as I posted in the Marshals forum. Some good banter on the posts I visited - which wasn't many as didn't feel an urge to wander round too much!
Think I broke a camera, sadly, but still managed some shots through the gloom (just). Gallery here if you're interested in seeing/remembering how wet it was - http://www.ae-photography.co.uk/albums/230912/ cheers Az |

Az,
Your pictures are, er very atmospheric ! Gawd, that is not ordinarily horrible, that is extremely ghastly horrible .... reminds me of the 1999 Gdwd Revival saloon car race (truly ghastly horrible downpour and even the REAL race-drivers were surprised it was not black-flagged). Al's right - time to pump out the race-car and go home. No fun at all. Nick |
But Nick . . .the GTA is a 'road' car
If your claim is true it would explain why I've been getting a 'little frustrated' with 3 Cortinas and a Tornado in the Fleet. Joe, The GTA is a bit of both, really, both road and race. (I know, I know, other forumists will say 'he ain't a serious racer' ....). It has done 20,000 miles since I started to race it 12 years ago, raced at Spa, Dijon, Monza, Nurburgring Nordschleife, Pau as well as all the English tracks up to and including Croft, and been driven to most of those ... and back, mostly. Thruxton in the GTA is heart-stoppingly wonderful. But I know from experience with a fore-and-aft garage in suburban London that having two racers is four times as much trouble as one ... and as for having four racers ..... I take my hat off to you, Sir ! Nick |

Nick . . .I've raced with you many a time in the past, we all try hard, I wouldn't dare drive mine to the circuit, my teeth would fall out! I don't have 4 racers, just the Cortina GT at present . . . a road Cortina and another GT 'project' . . .the TT will hopefully make major steps this winter as all the key parts are now done . . . assembly time beckons!

According to a brief report in Autosport today: "Tony Ford t-boned Dick Coffey after Dick's Turner spun on the Brabham Straight. Both drivers walked away from their wrecked cars"....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2KF6HqXmYo Obviously, err i mean, to shorten the viewing, I have excluded the first few laps where everyone went past me. I enjoyed it afterwards ! |
