Like all races it is first and foremost about coming first. That is the point of a race.

It is only about ovetaking if you need to do that to get to the front.

Agreed, passing other cars is a means to an end - that end being to cross the line first. My personal preference is to see that pass happen on the track rather than in the pits or waiting for someone to break down.

Kirk has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Well, of course Glen, but with all that comes the real goal, the goal to win and to do so almost always requires overtaking. To watch an entire race without a meaningful pass on the track is pathetic... and worse some have accepted that as an entertaining race... and it seldom is.

CamF1 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Overtaking is simply a by-product of racing. The goal, at least in F1, is to complete the set nominated distance in the least time possible following the rules. Overtaking in sometimes neccesary to do so. The attitude that overtaking is what constitutes a 'race' is simply a need created in the minds of some people who watch. Don't blame motor racing.

You know, i love to watch overtakings happen. The more dramatic or skillfully executed, the better.

But i have to agree that F1 is not ALL overtaking and nothing else. The whole of Formula One is interesting not just because of on-track overtaking, but more.

The goal is to win, and to win always requires brainwork...overtaking is done when necessary, or when the opportunity is open. But there are times when there may not be on-track overtaking, but brilliant driving that makes a race outstanding..

Oh...and i must say...crashes do add to it being entertaining..(but of course, without fatalities or injuries)... Spa 98...great watch
