Except Gonzales was supposed to stand down this weekend, sponsorship running out or something, and it didnt happen... so Besnard had to be put somewhere else.

Hows about that!!

Against seemingly insurmountable odds, David Besnard has brought home his Wright Patton Shakespeare PKV/Walker Reynard in 7th place with not a scratch on it!!!

A couple of spins coming out of slow corners (including one on the very first lap!) saw Zanardi-style donuts to correct, but the driver was on the lead lap, and was consistent.... and got some teev time as well

Well done Mr Besnard... you proved a lot of people wrong

As someone said tome today - what does that say about OWRS when a guy who struggles to make top 15 in V8Supercar finishes 7th in a Champ Car race?

Great drive by David.

It says that he had an awesome race, Falcadore.

Surely you're not suggesting that the talent level in V8's is higher than in CC?

Was Surfers the first CC race that you've ever watched?

Nah, its more that the WPS PKV/Walker ChampCar outfit possesses a higher level of technical competency relative to its compatriots than the WPS Supercar team does to its compatriots....

.. and its 19 cars vs 35...

actually this shouldnt turn into a debate , But having watched both series for a very long time I think the talent level is equal in both series.

Im not knocking the Champcar guys either , each car requires a discipline to drive and all of them are very taleneted , but we have some very gifted guys in the V8 ranks that never got the chance to shine.

But having said that what an awesome race by besnard , Ive been saying for years he is a much better open wheel driver than a sedan one.

Decent performance, he finished seventh on debut. IN A REYNARD. I wouldn't mind seeing him in a champcar, because he's a pain in V8s.

I'm a great Bezzy fan but lets not get too carried away. The only reason he didn't finish in the last two or three runners was the exquisite timing of the last yellow. He didn't have enough fuel to finish green , but hadn't yet made his "splash and dash" like Bruno and Bourdais had just done. The yellow allowed him to cruise the last few laps without stopping. Quite a few behind were genuine two stoppers who could race to the end. Alot of "ifs" as usual but lets not carry on as if he was battling with any of the Wilsons and the like.
Having said that - great job just finishing.

I know, it wasn't meant to knock V8Supercars, it was meant to knock me. But thats OK I'm thick skinned.

Firstly it wasn't my statement, but the statement of someone else who posts here a lot.

Seperate emotion from your thoughts and re-read and analyse. Here's some help.

Besnard has not always had a struggling team behind him. He was a V8Supercar race victory, and it wasn't a lucky win either. Yet he was only eighth in the championship.

OK, commenting on someone else's suggestion, perhaps the talent level in V8Supercar IS higher but through circumstance unproven internationally, or more precisely, OWRS struggles for depth. Take away the top four or five OWRS drivers and then where are you?

And it also another statement that there needs to be a merger between IRL and OWRS as soon as can be arranged.

I also had no arguement about the quality of Davids race. Very nicely done.

OK - must have been the team playing "silly buggers" when they said they needed yellow to get to the end.
I'd like to see some lap times tho'.

Nope wasn't you who spoke to me today, just outside the media centre at Indy, who rung me before to make sure I was still coming out for beers tonight, to say the original line.

He knows who he is, and won't read this till Monday, late or Tuesday. If at all.

Mr Gore stated VERY plainly in a Gore/Besnard press conference, that Besnard is a V8Supercar driver. Bezzie deferred to Gore for that judgement and didn't even look like disagreeing.

Phrase from David were dream come true (Champ Car) and unfinished business (V8Supercar)

Well here's hoping Mr Besnard's Supercar gig isnt under threat any more, and that he will continue to line up for WPS in that category in 2005!

I think his ChampCar was light on for fuel to the end, it wasnt keeping up with the car in front of him in the yellow flag conga line, something like 10 seconds or so behind the 6th place car....

If we're talking about references, I also heard a quote of Besnard's something along the lines of "I definitely learnt a lot for next time".

I'm not prepared to write it off completely, as unlikely as it is.

It's more about good luck than good management, but you'll take a debut 7th any day despite 2 spins and 4 stops.
