Ayrton Senna, he almost nailed Prost in Monaco, also the first win in Portugal on wet weather.
Keke Rosberg, remember the International trophy 1978, and he won with THEODORE.
Michael Scumacher, the current Regenmeister
and then, mmm...
Jackie Stewart
and
Jacky Ickx

and I think, with better car, Karthikeyan could win on wet.

Harsh ASCCII! I thought that your 'mistake' might have been deliberate. That race, along with events such as Suzuka '94 and Brazil '96, does help to demonstrate that Damon wasn't too bad in the wet, but he wouldn't make my list.

Greatest wet weather drivers, in chronological order:

- Carracciola
- Moss
- Clark
- Rodriguez
- Stewart
- Ickx
- Villeneuve, G
- Senna
- Schumacher

Wet races also sometimes allow a less-favoured driver to shine - most obvious example is probably Beltoise at Monaco in '72: beat Ickx by a minute and, if I recall correctly, lapped Fittipaldi in third.

Rudi Carraciola, perhaps. Ickx, Senna, Rodriguez, Villeneuve.... Boutsen deserves to be mentioned.

While I've been watching:

Michael Schumacher
Frentzen
Hill
Fisichella
Barrichello

Yer Damon Hill wouldnt make my list either. Anyone remember Barcelona '96. Spun twice then stuck it in the pit wall.

All this in the best car in the field.

He is competent in the wet.

Yeah, but that was a mistake with his set-up, not with driving. His car was aquaplaning.

Better than that I'd say. As santori says, there was definitely an error somewhere in the set-up that day. Damon's other drives in the wet, such as beating Alesi (a man considered to have fantastic car control) fair and square at Brazil in '96, demonstrate that he was one of the better wet drivers in F1. Similarly, although he was around 2 seconds slower than Schuey in the early stages of Spa '98, he was still around the same margin quicker than everyone else. More than competent I'd say!

Dunno if he would be considered one of the best but satoru nakajima was quite handy in the wet , he was very quick in the dry but in the wet he aquited himself very well indeed

Any list of drivers who performed in the rain must include Gilles. He transformed his skill on a snowmobile (little control and poor visibility) into driving open wheeled racing machinery very fast.

I would also agree with JYS as a rainmaster.

MS has put in a number of great performances in the rain. I think he has to be on the list as well.

My list or reinmeisters:

Jackie Stewart
Jacky Ickx
Ayrton Senna
Michael Schumacher

I'm in doubt to add Giancarlo Fisichella in this list... he did so well in Brazil 2003, but smashed his car in Spa 1998...

1 Michael Schumacher
2 Rudi Caracciola
3 Ayrton Senna
4 J Stewart
5 J Ickx

I'd agree with that, he spun on the first lap at Adelaide 1989 but fought back to finish 4th and set fastest lap. Japanese drivers do seem to go well in the wet, Shinji Nakano did well in the Minardi at Canada '98, battling with Irvine's Ferrari (!) and Wurz's Benetton before finishing 7th.

I was on Silverstone when Nigel Mansell won. But on the saturday it was raining like the gates of heaven was open and we was standing before the hangarstrait and Ayrton Senna came like a bullet from hell, there were none near him that day, so he is the fasterst in rain I belive.

Yes... but he didn't crash in Spa because of a lack of talent, he crashed because he didn't see Nakano's Minardi. Like a certain red car earlier in the day...

On another point, saying Hill wasn't that good in the wet because of Montmeló 96 is like saying Schumacher isn't good because of Monaco 96. Both had set their cars wrong for the conditions, and both found the wall...

I don’t think Schumacher was in the race long enough to make a judgment on his car setup in 96 Monaco as he crashed on the worm up lap?

For me, i.e. of those I've seen, Senna and Schumacher are head and shoulders above the rest.

I also remember the Brazillian GP of 1996, seeing "fastes lap: Jos Verstappen-Arrows Hart" on the screen for several laps was great.

and Jos did indeed finish 7th in Malasia 2001, but he did drive 2nd in that race when it was still raining(only 2 (red)cars where doing faster laps at the time, Jos was closing in on DC, but it stopped raining)

deeks6 User has been fined for unsportsmanlike behaviour!
1. Unquestionably, Jackie Ickx is the best
2. Senna, Schumacher M, Rodriguez next
3. Best of the rest - Alan Jones - apart from some mastery at Bathurst in a touring car, anyone who saw him beat Niki Lauda's Ferrari in a SHADOW at Austria 77 would have him up there for wet weather stuff.
4. Stefan Bellof deserves a mention too (Monaco 86) as does Thierry Boutsen who put in some great wet weather drives including a win at Adelaide.
5. Gilles Villeneuve's wet record is NOT that good, look it up. The fabled 9 seconds faster story is a crock ... there were only 5 cars that even attempted to go out in that session and none of them were serious.
6. Verstappen etc ... spare me!
