Bad News indeed. Back to the race though, what does everyone think of the new 2 hour format? Personally I quite like it, as the commentators have been saying there is now more opportunity to have creative strategies now thanks to 2 hour races rather than 3 hours, and of course theres a much better chance of live TV coverage now with Eurosport following this change.

There is in fact an hour less to have creative strategies.

The track looks deserted, where are the crowd?

No, because now the teams can choose whether or not they want to change tyres, with a 2 hour format they can double stint abd if they want to gamble and put in less fuel for the first stint and fuel the car heavy for the 2nd, or indeed whether or not the teams want to 3 stop in the race. There are more variables in this 2 hour format.

Before everyone in GT1 had to make 3 stops for fuel regardless, unless of course you are GPLK who managed to 2 stop once (Imola) and you had to fuel the car twice, and you certainly had to stop for tyres once, if not twice.

Quite like the two hour format...but admit it isn't very 'endurance'...it's like a DTM race with driver changes.

Almost, but not quite. IMO. DTM races are usually a maximum of 80 minutes or so. 2 Hours for me is a nice length, any shorter however and I would agree, the races would be too short. But this format is spectator friendly, and TV friendly. IMO.

Definately...as Eurosport are covering the whole thing without shunting it to other channels or taking a 15 break here and there for a change!

DTM races are just over an hour really, but the overall 'feel' is like a DTM race...actual length isn't representative.

The max for an F1/IRL race is usually 2 hours aswell don't forget - they don't have driver changes!

Ah yes, but is F1/IRL as hard on the drivers as FIA GT? F1 maybe, IRL? I dont know, they are open top cars after all so get a lot more fresh cool air to them than what the guys in the closed top cars do, cool suits or not, and of course theres always a lot of yellow flag periods in the IRL, plenty of time to grab your breath. Although GT1 cars probably dont pull quite so many G's as the IRL cars id still say its tougher work to drive a GT1 car. IMO.

They were expecting 20000 today but unfortunately there something like 5000. In fact, on a really hot day like this I am really surprised that so many people are willing to suffer for so many hours under the sun.

Hot weather? According the Eurosport commentator it was only 24 Celcius.

Congrats to Vitaphone (Bartels & Scheider) and Gruppe M (Collard & Sugden).

forgot . terrible race for Saleens again .
mixed feeling for the 2h race too . there are many cars with one really strong driver and a lesser one .. in a 2h race. they can't really recover from that . it would be ok with no driver changes . or max 1 change . but that's not endurance racing

Okay in the ALMS the car hasnt faired quite so well but IMO its not done badly either.

The 575 on the other hand has never really been given much in the way of development and support by Ferrari. I say again, the European teams running MC12's this year have not had a raw deal, the car took 1st and 2nd in the Spa 24hrs this year in front of a huge crowd and has done extremely well in FIA GT this year, but not been totally dominant. IMO.
I wouldn't touch a GT1 car that could not race in ACO events. What happens if FIA GT drops out of favour with teams, were are the Maserati teams going to race?

How much commitment have Masearti to the MC12. They are not building anymore race cars and are switching focus to a GT2 car.

As for the 575, weren't they more expensive than a Prodrive 550?

This is the problem for GT1 racing, so many very expensive cars have no future. Teams cannot justify shelling out £1m for a new car every couple of years.
