I think a sticker is different to an electronic gizmo in this context, though. And no different to ads on billboards, or the side of the cars...

This is what I heard Alan Gow announced at the BTCC bash at the weekend. On the official site he's certainly confirmed the deal with ITV will eb continuing in 2006.

It was an hour long show usually in the wee small hours a week or two after the race with no promotion. Other than a voiceover at the start, end and before/after each ad break it was a rough edit of Eurosport's live feed.

Regarding the sponsorship, what about the BTCC when it was the "Auto Trader British Touring Car Championship", frequently, on-board cameras had a Auto Trader sticker in shot on the dashboard for seconds on end.
We did go through a stage a couple of years ago where ITV would blur out the dashboard 'Green Flag' logo. Something to do with it having undue prominence according to IBA rules. Trackside ads were ok but the dashboard logos were there solely because of the TV camera.

The actual text saying 'Green Flag' was ok, but the logo wasn't. Strange one that.

At least on ITV you can be sure when the programme will be on - towards the end of the BBC's time the coverage was often cut down and shunted around the Grandstand schedules to allow it to be squueezed in between whetever else they were showing. I haven't seen any of C4s WTCC shows, mainly because I've never been able to find them - if ITV are going to commit to showing the coverage at definite times, I have no problem with them adding it to their current motorsport offering.

The text of "Green Flag" was only allowed because the official name of the championship was "Green Flag British Touring Car Championship".

If the words Green Flag had been any different to the rest of the name, such as a different colour or size, they wouldn't have been allowed.

There's so much potential for showing the WTCC on TV in a good slot on ITV. And by running the programme alongside BTCC coverage, it would probably increase viewing figures for both.

WTCC coverage could so easily be improved by having a real presenter (not just a VO as on C4), and editing the highlights properly.

Also if they did proper highlights, they should re-do the commentary to fit. It's no good having commentary from live TV on highlights programmes. Oh yeah, and put it on at a reasonable time - this is supposed to be the world's best touring car championship!

Yes, but they've already said the only touring car championship they will be showing in 2006 will be the British Touring Car Championship.

While the WTCC probably deserves better coverage than Eurosport provides, it isn't going to come from ITV.
