what a beat up

I am no fan of the lack of accountability of CAMS but this is a beat up.

If Osborne paid his own expenses from London to race, then there is nothing wrong (even to the Tax man). If he did not originally you can bet he refunds CAMS now.

CAMS needs to lift its game & this is a good example - be accountable & there is no story.

CAMS will never be accountable as no one who is employed will ever make a decision. All decisions are made at a voluntary level and if they stuff up or cause someone grief or expense it is stiff. They would actually make a good footy team, they are experts at passing allbeit the 'Buck"

So which C. Osborne is the one that's been scaring people away from purchasing a front running APCC car with advice that it won't be eligible for much longer?

And the Celica is now to be discontinued. I wonder if it will be killed off now seeing the Honda S2000 is going.

The information suggested that Colin Osbourne ran in this event in one of Mal Rose's Mirages and this appears to be substantiated by this web page http://www.toyo.com.au/Nurburgring%202005.1.htm
I've talked to him about the race, he was definitely there.

Is the S2000 going? It seemed to be running fine (and at the front of the field) at Wakefield Park.

The "two Colin Osbornes" issue came out of the NSW CAMS State Council meeting on February 18, 2006. A question was asked about a report (eg Auto Action May 18-24, 2005, p. 18) which mentioned Colin Osborne had been part of the Mal Rose Mitsubishi team competing at the Nurburgring 24-hour race, on May 7-8, 2005. The question was asked because CAMS president Colin Osborne had been listed to speak at a CAMS club forum at Eastern Creek on May 7, 2005, but it was announced at the forum he had been unexpectedly called to London to negotiate details of the 2005-06 CAMS insurance cover.

The answer given to the question was that it was a case of confused identities - the Colin Osborne negotiating on CAMS' behalf in London was a different person to the Colin Osborne who was racing at the Nurburgring.

However, a Toyo press release following the 2005 Nurburgring event specifically mentioned that the competing Colin Osborne was the CAMS president, and the ADAC results list for the event noted that one of the Mitsubishi drivers was "Colin Osborne, Dundas." The Colin Osborne who is CAMS president lives in the Sydney suburb of Dundas.

It appears, therefore, that on two occasions, seven months apart, meetings of CAMS clubs in NSW have deliberately been given incorrect information about the president of CAMS. What is going on here?

What is going on is that CAMS have funded Colin Osborne, CAMS President, to go motor racing under the pretext of funding the CAMS Presidents 'requirement' to be in London to negotiate and sign off on the 'superior' insurance package CAMS has taken out.

By now, once again, giving false information about this (two Colin Osbornes - come on CAMS do you think everyone is a fool?) CAMS are showing they are willing to cover up their funding of personal motor sport involvement by 'one of the boys'.
Whispers on the grapevine suggest that moves are afoot to force 'one of the 'Colin Osbornes' to repay the costs of this trip and that one club (who, it appears, have a number of barristers who are well-versed in motor sport matters) is looking to take this into the courts in order to make CAMS accountable to its 'members' (this alone may well force a definitive answer as to who CAMS members are).

While I can understand posters' concern, I do not believe Colin Osborne would ask CAMS to cover his travel costs for personal activities.
Surely, the problems here are those which arise from the circumstances of the May 2005 NSW CAMS Club Forum.
The Forum was put together after NSW State Council in February 2005 passed a motion which requested Colin Osborne talk to NSW clubs about the future of club-level motorsport. His name was on the agenda for the Forum, and only at the start of the day's proceedings were the clubs told he could not attend, because he had been called to London at the last minute for negotiations to do with the 2005-06 insurance.
Since he was racing at the Nurburgring that same weekend, it seems he was going overseas anyway, whatever the last-minute nature of the insurance negotiations. However, the Forum was not told about the Nurburgring, only about the insurance.
Problem 1: there were two members of the CAMS Ltd Board at the Forum, as well as the Chairman of the NSW State Council and the NSW State Manager.
If any of these people did NOT know about Colin Osborne's Nurburgring commitments, they were as mis-informed as the rest of the Forum. If any of them DID know, they were parties to the misinformation process.
Problem 2: when the question was asked which produced the "two Colin Osbornes" answer at the February 2006 NSW State Council meeting, further deliberate mis-information seems to have been given. The choice is whether the answer was based on genuine belief there WERE two Colin Osbornes - in which case, who provided the information on which that belief was based? - or whether the answer was given to State Council despite knowing the answer was incorrect.
To repeat: what is going on here?

And another thing - how well-run is his hospital, with all this time CAMS must take? Oh, that's right - it's a NSW Public Hospital!

No wonder we get cynical about CAMS - you have to wonder how long has this sort of thing been going on (and where was it when I was a delegate to the State Council?)
