Brilliance. Now if we can get a GT only 3 hour race on the same card then it will be even better.

Maybe a FIA GT/Le Mans race in 2008 then, eh? This will definitely make the BIMF worth attending |

This is THE BEST NEWS i have heard for production based racing since the demise of Procar. Will be great to see class racing return to the mountain. May it be a resounding success, and whilst id love to see a 24hr again one day on the mount, a 12 hour in its own right will be brilliant. See you all there next year.

Rolling Start or not, I think I'll be fighting a lot of people for a good photo position at Hell Corner...

I'm not sure there would be a rolling start, GT-P and the APCC run their races from standing starts. The 24 Hour only had a rolling start as the N-GT/Nations Cup machinery didn't have standing starts in their series.
Are they going to harmonise the GT-P/APCC regulations so there is one set of rules for the race (divided into classes of course by for this arguments sake engine capacity), or will there be seperate classes for each series (eg... class one GT-P, class 2 APCC Class A etc etc....) |

This race should be able to offer something for everybody (unlike the supercars). There is some interesting locally made made performance cars to cater for the Holden and Ford brigade as well as Japanese and European marques that to some degree have been ignored in recent years. Different engine specs, turbo, naturally aspirated, large and small capacity. Bring it on I say!

There is no way they would speculatively invest in an unproven event that is V8 SUPERCAR-free.The only way to "prove" an event at Bathurst is for somebody to stump up with a seven figure sum and pull in every category which has some public appeal, unfortunately excluding decent openwheelers evidently. In other words Series Production Sedans, Sports or GTs,Historic Sedans and Sports ,from the best available.NO one-make races. Is there something sacrosanct about 12 or 24 hour races? If a main event at Bathurst could be a 500km,or50 laps,or whatever support categories could be fitted around[or even in !!!] the main event, and provide good racing on the Saturday. Rant over. |

What I wasn't aware of was Mazda being banned from many categories. They have chosen not to build cars cars to comply with the current rules of various categories but that is a lot different from one that states "No Mazdas" |

Thats an interesting way of looking at it.
Lets hope whatever rules they have for the 12 hour that the RX-8 is eligible, so it can dominate like the RX-7 did Apparently they're building an RX-8 SP? |

An Rx8 maybe eligable under the GT performance catagory rules. I dont think the organisers will allow an SP version though.
From my discussions with people who are closely involved the eligble cars will run to GTP and APCC regs, which wont include "special" editions. Thats what kills production car racing, when manufacturers start making "specials" just to win a race. |
