I'm guessing this started as a poll of the (more or less) current BTCC drivers, and then got updated by a succession of old git moderators...

I'm gratified to see someone else remembers Andy Rouse well enough to vote for him.

For me, special mentions also to John Cleland (the original hooligan) and Matt Neal. Oh and I've added Gabriele Tarquini. How could you forget Gabriele Tarquini?!?!?!

I did remember him, I was going to add him, Kox and Kristensen as 'Honda' passed my head - then I thought that was madness...where will it end!

Any one of Anthony Reid, Matt Neal, Jason Potato, Jimmy T, Harvey etc....oh, and Smokin' Joe!

I always quite liked Frank Biela as well for some reason...

Hmmm, it's either John Cleland or Gareth Howell?

An interesting concept. Alan, next BTCC masters don't forget little Gareth!

For being the sweetest, nicest most genuine guy (who should definitely get a chance of another drive) - Paul O'Neill
For all out racing and never being afraid to say what he felt and being a great character - without doubt - John Cleland
For still can't believing he's gone, missing him and wishing he was still with us - Will Hoy

I can't believe I'm the only person that's voted for Will Hoy so far. Come on you guys, he's got to have won over more people than just me. A nicer person in motorsport you would have struggled to meet and he was a fabulous driver to boot. I remember him at one of the touring car autograph sessions chatting for ages to a little 5 or 6 year old boy explaining all about the cars and the drivers in the lad's language. He had so much time for the real fans of the sport and never got too big for his boots.

The BTCC's only 'clubman' champion - it really is hard to believe he's not with us any more. RIP Will, you were one of the best.

Oh true, Will Hoy was one of the greatest, and there's many that really miss him. A very genuine, honest and friendly man.

However, since we can only choose one favourite, my choice (this time) has gone to Cleland. Will comes a close second though.

Will Hoy, of course! Bloody legend. Remember that Silverstone win in early '98, one of the best BTCC moments I experienced personally.

Speaking of '98, I'd like to add Mansell. OK, he only did a few one-off meetings, but that wet race at Donington was simply unreal! Cleland, Muller and Reid also contributed to that of course!

Just forget the fact that Nige was rubbish in every other race, and his massive shunt in '94!

Steve Soper or Joachim Winkelhock, but they aren´t in the list. I would then chose Harvey, at least other BTCC winner with BMW.

My choice goes to Anthony Reid. Nice person to talk to, plus I'll never forget Knockhill 2004 where he performed some awesome outbraking at the hairpin. I don't think he has any fear!

Wish he was back competing

Anthony Reid was great. Very misunderstood I thought.

Got his autograph along with David Leslie at the motor show in 1998-ish. Both were top drawer blokes and pleasant to talk to.

Gotta be Cleland for me. He was my original touring car hero.

What no Win Percy or even Frank Gardiner (only joking, thought I would throw in another name or two)

Have been watching this post for a while and I an surprised there are so few votes, actually.

John Cleland, Mr Personality.
Regardless of the fact he generally drove GM products and I am more of a Blue oval man, he is extremely affable and engaging.

Special mention to his comments about Bathurst 3 (?) years ago when he and Plato “came together” “…I travelled 20,000 miles for the same git to take me out as would happen at home…” or some thing to that effect.
