About not having enough fuel for one more lap:

Since during the race cars are driven at top revs and max power (more or less) I'd assume that they have extreme fuel consumption at the time, and, when SC gets out, consumption is much smaller, and I'd expect them to allways be able to go for one more lap under 'SC regime'.

Can somebody with more tech knowledge confirm or deny that please?

It's all about how much fuel you have onboard when the "Pit Lane Closed" message is given. However if you've stayed out for as long as possible knowing full well you can't do another lap and you get the "Pit Lane Closed" message, well that's just tough!

It would seem, that to be safe, cars will be called in when they still have at least a couple of laps of fuel onboard.

I read the regulations and they do not introduce champ car style tire rules. I dont understand what persons are talking about. for the "official race weekend" (3rd practice, qualifying and race) each team will have 5 sets of each spec, however, after third practise they must give one set of each spec to the fia effectively leaving 4 sets of each spec. teams can use all of one spec for the race and for qualifying or use different specs in qually than in the race. a good example is teams will use the "least optimum" spec to burn fuel in 3rd qually.

there WONT BE ANY SUPER STICKY TYRES!! bridgstone will be presenting two sturdy tires to each meeting. the designs will be conservative with a "comparatively" wide operating band (for temps, road surfaces ...etc) one spec will be on the softer side and one spec will be on the harder side!

77) Use of tyres
a) Each team will be allocated eight sets of dry-weather tyres, four of each specification, for use during P1 and P2. These are the only dry-weather tyres which may be used during these sessions and must be returned to the tyre supplier before the start of P3.
b) Each driver will be allocated ten further sets of dry-weather tyres, five of each specification, for use during the remainder of the Event. However, one set of each specification must be returned to the tyre supplier before the start of the qualifying practice session and may not be used during the
remainder of the Event.
c) Prior to the start of the qualifying practice session wet and extreme-weather tyres may only be used after the track has been declared wet by the race director, following which extreme, wet or dryweather tyres may be used for the remainder of the session.
d) Unless he has used wet or extreme-weather tyres during the race, each driver must use at least one set of each specification of dry-weather tyres during the race.
From the FIA regs.

Frank_White: 77d goes against what you have posted. Perhaps you can find a quote that endorses your assertion
