Darn! Well I hope that with the new 08 SRT model we will see an ACO/FIA legal version soon!!

It seems the Viper GT2 will only be valid for the International GT Open and National Championships and maybe some other series I'm forgetting. It won't race in FIA/ACO racing.

Check Oreca's information on the Viper GT2

Really - honestly - How many times do I and others here have to say exactly that before everyone accepts it?

Nobody has ever 'confirmed' any possibility of an ACO / FIA GT2 Viper before 2008

The question then is has Dodge said there is NO possibility of it happening!!!! Now I came late to the conversation but in november there was the stir of ?? is it or isn't it ACO/FIA vs. just Intl. GT open? The answer then was we would have to see at Barcelona to be sure(w/ it more than likely being the latter!).Then silence till I inquired on the 3rd! After recieving the actual update about the Barcelona event I expressed my opinion and hope of seeing one soon based on the aforementioned 08 model . Now I myself do not know of any homologation deadline other than pertaining to specific events(homologate anytime). With that being said 08's come out in mid 07 and seeing as how there was no 07 and it is a major rework of the car we could see an early release by dodge! That being the case who is to say we will not see one before the 08 season!

Excuse me if my inquisitiveness has cast rain upon your parade!! But I for one would really like to see more entrants into GT-1 and in my case from American manufacturers. And Dodge is a very proven product and a good candidate for that occurrence!!

Dodge has not specifically had a press release stating that they won't build an ACO/FIA GT1 or GT2 car for 08', or beyond. They also haven't stated they won't build a rocket ship, or solve world hunger.

The wording around this International GT Open car has been very clear though, and leaves no doubt as to its purpose. Feel free to speculate on 08' and beyond though.

Where did you get GT1 from? Wasn't this a rumored GT2 program?

Yes you are correct in that. Since it has been proven to be not, but a rumor. I was extrapolating from an ACO/FIA legal car to an (A)LMS GT-1 car.

The text below is from the DSC story - entirely sourced from Dodge competition Europe - some months ago

"There are however no immediate plans for an upgrade to full FIA GT2 specification, this would require substantial modification to the rear bodywork, rear wing and front splitter, the Competition Coupe has different rear bodywork to the roadgoing SRT10 and this ensures that homologation to full GT2 spec is less than straightforwrd. - It is not however completely out of the question. It seems that there are conversations underway with Dodge in the US but no move is likely towards full GT2 homologation before 2008."

That's not a rendering, it's the real 2008 Viper.

Unfortunately they've gone and made the engine even bigger, 8.4 liters. So it still wont fit in the rules as they stand now.

But by ACO rules it can be sleeved down and become legal if homologated that way. GT-1) 2.2.2 and 5.2.1 c/ GT-2) 2.2.2 and 5.2.3

That is what Oreca did to GT2 Competition Coupe to run in the IGTO. They're using the previous generation's cylinder sleeves. So it shouldn't be too much of a problem to create a proper GT1/GT2 SRT-10. It's the same engine block anyway.

Maybe a few ray's of sunlight on this project via the Woodhouse ALMS entry! Release
Dodge mentioned as one of the parties involved.

By the looks of it, Dodge is in the form of sponsorship, something like a Dodge Dealers type of situation.

I could be wrong though.
