Actually, a win is a win. Doesn't matter what type of track it came on. I always said that JPM would probably finish lower than 15th in points. I don't care how good a driver may be in open wheel racing, Nascar is a different type of racing and takes talent and experience learning how to race the series. I expect JPM to get much better in the next several years, he has talent but not "Nascar" experience. His learning curve though is still a steep hill to climb. I am glad that he is racing in Nascar as he will eventually bring excitement and the competition will be fun to watch.
Mario was probably the best open wheel driver to race in Nascar. Of course, he was probably the best driver to race anywhere. I wish that he had raced Nascar his whole career. It would have been interesting to compare his results against the Nascar Legends. |

I think the series show have more "road course"/circuit events. Partly for variety, but primarily because the likes of Montoya would have more competition in these events, and everyone would have to get their circuit skills up to scratch because it would be more integral to the championship.
I imagine there would be less dropping of regular drivers just to make way for circuit experts. |

Before JPM came, that would've been one of those ideas that should it have happened, some oval fans would get miffed, drivers might like or applaude it, no big deal. Now, especially seeing that he's very capable of winning on a road course in NASCAR machinery, just about everyone would immediately think that NASCAR adding road courses is just a way to show JPM winning more to try to give the series more international exposure and say "Hey, international guys are coming here and winning!" Sure, this may sound childish and somewhat naiveté, but remember the discussions when Kenseth won the Cup and in turn we got the Chase? No ridiculous conspiracies in NASCAR, right... |
