Can you imagine if that happens, 20k brits driving down to Le mans, it will be like a re run of the cannonball run, with the french police blocking roads, fining brits for, well being British. The french government hate us anyway so imagine how they will welcome us when we arrive in Calais, it could take days just to get through the customs control and they will of course take great care to confiscate anything they feel is a risk to France, taking bacon/tea would result in a prison sentence for sure.

The possibility of many of us getting to France in August took a downturn today as the British government announced that a possible extension of the foreign travel ban couldn't be ruled out and said that booking a trip abroad this summer would be "premature."

We are not going on holiday, i have heard that Eric might be feeling unwell in August so we will all be going to visit a poorly friend rather than going on holiday.

There was no such Govt announcement. This was a Govt Minister giving his opinion in response to a question in a general TV interview. It's definitely very unlikely that travel restrictions will be lifted at the first opportunity (which would be May 17th). It's entirely possible that there will still be restrictions come August. But we don't know what restrictions, applied to what countries, for who. And we won't know that for months.

Still five months till it happens, so hopefully things will be sorted out by then, including the vaccines in Europe

It’s worth it for sure. I hate how some people are so dead against the vaccine, when it’s our best chance of returning to normality

I bit the bullet tonight and spoke to Travel Destinations. They don't have enough folks to run Porsche Curves so I rolled over to next year.

I think that's sensible to be honest Peter. Quite apart from the unlikelihood of us getting there anyway, I can't help but feel the same unease about travelling to France as I had last year - even if that is still over 4 months away - with the situation as it is now. Who knows, things may get considerably better over that time, but I have a feeling they're actually going to get worse over the next month or so - in France at least.

Come on have some hope, we all need something to look forward to rather than just sit around muttering like a certain Scottish undertaker from dads army. Ok france is not at present doing as well as the uk but in 4 months time i am sure things will be better. We all need hope not more people telling us we are all dommed to a life of misery.

Based on the UK we needed to vaccinate 30m people and lock down for 6 months (Dec to 21 June). I can't see France being ready in less than 6 months can you?
I've also been invited to drive in the Spa 6hrs end of September. Right now I can't see that happening either. |

As I've said before Simon, I admire your spirit and optimism, but reality has to kick in sooner rather than later.....

Well make it later, there are still well over 4 months to go, if you live like expecting the worse then what is the point of life, always look on the bright side of life as a certain gentleman sang.

The situation in France or the rest of Europe doesn't need to be spotless for people to travel and for limited fans to spectate the race. They thought they could make it happen last September with no vaccines in the picture.
I'd definitely feel better about the situation if it was September, as every week is critical. It feels 50/50 at the moment. |

So the 2020 le mans classic is now officially cancelled but the 2022 is hopefully being held as usual.

There's no point running the Le Mans classic this year, better to wait to 2022 when things should be properly back to normal
