Because they are morons.

Remember a former CEO of GM saying that GM is not in the market of making cars, GM are in the market of making money.

This was a few years before the US tax payers had to bail them out. GM's track record is not that great

I'm sad to hear of this but I'm not surprised. It just shows that GM are still idiots. They've learnt nothing.

Wonder if GM is going enforce limitations on the Camaro GT3 that Reiter engineering is building?

Reiter did a major redevelopement to their Camaro. But they still sufer from that big and to heigh mounted V8 and that the car does not provide es much downforce as it would need. Plus they do not have special developed tyres from michelin like most of the other GT3.

michelin? as far am I aware, actually the only series where gt3 cars can still use michelin is VLN and FFSA... camaro gt3 runs in adac gt masters where all cars use the same yokohama compund.
I think that the main problem of the car is the poor aero development.

Compound might be the same (wasn't the same last year), but the Camaro is the only GT3 car that uses 19 inch tires. All others GT3's use 18 inch.

The GT America is based off the 911(991) GT3 Cup car.

I've read somewhere (here or endurance-info, or both) that porsche will hang on with the 997 GT3R until 2016 season. In theory we should expect a new gt3 in 2017. Actually nobody knows if will be a 991 GT3R or a GT3 version of the rumored mid-engined car that in future will replace the 991 RSR.
The only truth for now is that porsche is giving less support to the GT3 program compared to recent seasons... no more work manthey at nurburgring, almost 0 official support to gt-open, VLN, BES, BSS, adac gt masters teams etc...

I guess this is the consequence of having 2 GT work teams in WEC and TUSC

I think that's the new 911 GT3 RS version, Porsche will probably try to base the new GT3R off that.

Porsche's new GT3 is probably coming for 2016 just like most if not all the other manufacturers.

Wonder if a EU based team can run the Callaway C7 GT3 in the US? It says that Callaway can not market the C7 GT3 in NA but can they prevent Europeans who own one to race it here?

Do GM have power over US Customs?

I'd think this all is enforced (if necessary) through more informal channels. As a Corvette tuner Callaway are very much interested in good relations with GM, they aren't going to jeopardize those for a sideshow racing program. At the same time, Callaway's GT3-customers depend on Callaway for spare parts and support.

And GM/Corvette can lobby to ban them in US racing. Just like Porsche does with the GT3 R not allowed in TUSC.

Corvette also did it before. Atlas eFX-Team wanted to use the Riley-Corvette C6 GT2 in ILMC 2011. Corvette said no because of their own GT2 car. And that was the end of Atlas eFX-Team.

I doubt Atlas eFX would have made any of the races even if they had been accepted... maybe Spa warmup if lucky

Oh Atlas. Had they not crashed that Saleen at 2010 Hungaroring we could've seen Zsolt freaking Baumgartner at Silverstone! Minardi legend. Not to mention they appeared on the initial first draft entry list for Petit, which would've marked the final appearance of GT1 car on North American soil as late as fall 10, instead of Long Beach 09.

But enough of offtopic rambling...

I believe there were other factors involved too with that organization...
