Scanners and Stuff

I've just joined the forum, so lots of catching up to do!

I live in Abu Dhabi, and am one of the Chief Marshals for the f1 (I'm also Chief Marshal of the UAE Desert Challenge, run a Rescue Unit at the Autodrome, and generally help out with most Motor Sport here).

Anyway, in response to an earleir post regarding scanners, I wouldn't recommend bringing one, as you are mnore than likely to have it taken off you in customs, along with any 2-way radios, radar detectors and so on!

Having said that Abu Dhabi is a great place to live, and i'm sure you will have a great time here.

Other things not to carry are:-
'Dodgy' videos
Alcohol (but you can buy at the duty free when you arrive here at good prices-keep the receipts). Acting in a disorderly fashion due to alcohol in public is a SERIOUS offense. But I forgot, Marshals don't drink.

It WILL be hot by UK standards-I'm sure everyone has been told to keep hydrated (alcohol dehydrates you). Be careful with Rehydrating Powders etc-they can cause heart problems-lots of plain water is best.

Just remember airlines operate 24 hour clock system which means that those (myself included) that are on the 02:35 flight on the 2nd Nov is actually just after midnight on the Sunday straight after the race, so don't relax too much!!!!

in a nutshell,
you will be covered for any accident ect you have whilst at the circuit.
whilst you are not at the circuit, this insurance will not cover you.
this will be where you need additional insurance, check with your Bank.
The Bank we are with gives you travel insurance automatically & free.

Well my plans are now in place. Will be leaving Coventry at 4 am to get to Heathrow for 6. Got a friend to drive me down there and then pick me up on the Monday. At least I am on the 13.20 Flight out of AD so only one early morning for flights.
I was thinking of getting a Hotel on the Tues night but finances will not stretch. I can still pick up someone if needed down the M40

BARC letter says SIMILAR to MSA insurance, so valid question.

However, BMMC insurance does cover you whilst "active" abroad so get your "green slips" to your regional competitions secretary.

If you have registered with MSA for overseas events, there is some cover available. I'd check with them. I also would have thought that BARC have put some form of insurance in place, again worth phonecall to check.

Bit of a bummer that, F1 finishes and it's straight back to leave for the airport more or less, and those that have been there since the 21st are not flying untill 13:20
