that's really bad news. i'm really surprised, that stuff is very rare these days. it seems like the astons aren't all that bullet-proof in terms of safety.

Apparently a tree was involved...and it was a driver-side hit. That is a very nasty combination.

Unsourced reports. Any time there's such a long delay in official news (of any sort) immediately raises huge concern for me.

It puts some of the other accidents I have seen at Lemans into perspective. Krohns accident, McNish, Luhr, Rockenfeller. To see that they got away and Simonsen could not, I dont know what to think anymore. Chilling.

Not sure if you noticed but he hit a tree. This may be the end of the trees at that location

Horrible news and puts everything in to perspective. I don't mean it in a tasteless way, but I've had a feeling for a while now that it was only a matter of time before someone was killed at Le Mans. There have been some terrible crashes in recent years where people were lucky to walk away from. Then a strange crash at a place where cars don't normally go off leads to this. Thoughts of course to family and friends.

I remember the Jo Gartner crash, that was my very first time at Le Mans.

Exactly what I was thinking, they owe it to the family and people watching to act accordingly in this situation... Horrid thing to have to announce but needs to be done, the race goes on but we should all take a moment to reflect when something like this happens...

They need to do more than read the official statement and then say "ANYWAY". Come on guys.
