Only seen one replay so cannot make a judgement yet.
What I do know is that I will not be glued to the TV as I would have been. Huge own goal for the ALMS! |

I feel really sorry for the Zytek team. Can't really tell if it was the Lola or Audi, but what is wrong with these people? One corner out of 10 hours, and half of P1 is effectively out of a change of winning.
(And Lehto looked like he was spoiling for a fight since warm up, so it seems.) |

Shimoda held the middle/inside line with Weaver coming up the inside. Lehto came around the outside, chopping off the front of the Zytek meaning that Shimoda went into Weaver then back across off the track. Meanwhile Lehto hit the wall pretty fast - completely destroying the front end of the Audi.
Shimoda's steering is useless - cannot make it back to the pits - retired. Lehto crabs back to the pits and Champion are trying to repair it. Lehto and Weaver are meant to be professionals, what on earth were they playing at - first corner of a 10 hour race and they sandwich a 20 year old driver - what do they expect? It's such a shame because it turns the race into another Audi parade. The team boss of Zytek has just been on the air saying that they would have preferred to start from the back-that rumours before the race said that Champion/Lehto were out to punt them off, maybe not true but even so.........what was Lehto playing at? Apparantly Zytek are reconsidering their Leguna entry - what a loss if they pull out. |

Weaver came up the inside from the second row to make it three wide into turn one. Contact was pretty much inevitible after he did that. Shimoda was a full car-width further left than JJ was expecting because Weaver was occupying that space.

Weaver back into the pits for ...oh... must be the third time now.
Lehto about to go out. Interesting to note one of the Audi guys who said their goal is to help their team car however possible. (Does that include more bumper cars with anyone getting close?) |

It seems to me to have been a racing accident, to say that it was planned is plain crazy.
I really feel for Shimoda and the team, but less so for Chilton after hearing him go on about it being a long distance race after his performance at Silverstone where he drove like a fool. Any more problem for the P1's and corvette or aston could pick up a surprise win here. |

Again, Shimoda did not hold his line, and moved left when he saw Weaver. I'm not happy with any of them. Weaver is probably the spoiler, as the addition of his car made it impossible. JJ was moving ahead of Shimoda when the contact occured.
Wouldn't be surprised if Zytek just go home after this. |

I think they will go home. Their experience of the ALMS so far is hardly good.
Whats the point in hanging around for Leguna - nothing apart from some more damage costs. IMHO the tracks are not wide/long enough for sportscars, 30 cars on a 2 mile track is crazy. They should head back to Europe, win the LMES at Turkey and think about next year, America is not for them. |

It makes what could have been a great race as boring as paint drying.
Lets hope Corvette and Aston hot it up, cant see it happening though. So dissapointing for the fans more than anything else. |

Someone wake me up when it ends.
PS. Lets hope the Audis collide or something, then we can have a Corvette vs Aston run for the line |

Yeah, i'm wondering why the ALMS is still bothering with Prototypes. 13 lmps at the start and after 3 hours all but 4 of them in the bottom half of the time table.

It was also interesting to hear Graham's opinion of the ALMS grids. The quality/standard of the teams/cars/drivers is way beyond what we have in LMES! Quote: 'There are no grid fillers here!!' He also believes there could be four different marques racing in P1 in the ALMS next year, plus the R&S. |

oops...
Zytek is now facing the same problem Creation had last year....silly incidents with a car that does not like contacts. The Creation boys did learn their lesson and stayed clear of all Audis etc this year . Zyteks young guns pay the price for not being patient. They should not withdraw from Laguna ,as this is the race they are to win ....even if they start from the pit...it worked at the Nurburgring ,it will work at laguna. |

Having watched the incident on Motors tv, I don't think I should comment on what I think of JJ Lehto. Taken me this long to calm down and stop myself shouting at the TV!!! Hmph.
