On the right moment... what a race I think the Maserati has the upperhand. |

Thanks to Player TV for showing some of the race live. Thanks especially for cutting to a commercial break for the chequered flag.

Great end of race. Aston can do it for next year. Notice that Ferrari hasn't dominated a GT category for ages.

Fantastic race in the end, right up until after the final stops you couldn't call it - just goes to show a race can be interesting even with only 2 cars racing. |

Courageous, you're right on both counts - I just got my moan in before the other thread was started.
Imperfect coverage is better than none, and with the help of live timing, it pieced together to be an entertaining and exiting race. |

As far as I can see, it was the best proper (ie more than 6 hours) endurance race so far this year - if it weren't for bloody Vodaphone I would have been glued to the PC for all 24 hours!

This 24hours race was one of the best endurance races ever.

I really wanted Aston Martin and the new Phoenix team to win. but hey this was one hell of a race! Strategy and speed of the Massa paid of. Any stats? What was the largest time seperation between the two during the race?

MST Systems has a 735 page document about the timing: http://www.mstworld.com/Results/2006/60014fgt.pdf

Yep,it was a great racingweekend again in the Ardennes.
Loved the huge field in GT3. Don't like the new model Viper though, the old one was way more stylish and recognisable imho. Also the two Manthey(read factory) 997 GT3RSR's were really great to watch. Sounding nice'n ruff, spewing blue flames in the night. Interresting to see there was les then a second difference between the fastest lap of the quickest F430 and the 997's...promises good racing for when these RSR's are being let loose next season. |

I understand that the new Porsche also ran with GT1 spec rear wings and GT1 spec air restrictors.....
Certainly the rear wing looks massive compared to the old model. |

Very nice images Happy Snapper! I see you also attended the run of the cars to the center of Spa for briefing? That is just on the main roads around the tracks isn't it?

I was at Spa for the race and I must say - this was one of the greatest 24h races since a lot of years I am very happy to were there ...
concerning the new 997 GT2 Porsches ... in this specification they would not be allowed to compete in the GT2 class in the FIA GT season ... yes - as the AF Corse 430 they had 28 kg ballast because of the drivers ... but - as Salo was very upset about it in Oschersleben during the press conference I do not understand this decission ... the driver pairs of the other Ferrari teams ar not really worser ... what ever ... I do not know a lot about the wings of the new Porsches ... but they defentily drove with GT1 rear tyres and this 28 kg ballast ... AND - I was really suppriesed how much problems they had ... ok - it is a new car - but in the end it is not a totaly different car compared to the 996 GT2 RSR ... beside - I had loved to see the Phonix team win - mainly because of Andrea (piccini) and the Aston ... but in the end the last hour of the race was really breath taking ... hope I will add some pics, soon ... |

I loved every minute of it. An absolute honour to be in the Ardennes for the 1st time. We became the 1st podcast to get FIA media accreditation at a GT event and managed to get some great material in between binge drinking!!
Cannot wait to return next year already. |
