"There are a couple of things that are challenging for us at Brands," Pook admitted. "The local planning council controls the number of events that are held on the long course and there are some safety issues on the long course, including at least one place where the cars would be airborne."
Pook also said CART's European schedule could expand to as many as four races in 2004, with Estoril and Spa-Francorchamps still in the frame for race dates. "There is considerable interest in us going to both Estoril and Spa," he said. "But we have to have a few more discussions with our interested European manufacturers before we make final decisions on those two race tracks." http://www.autosport.com/newsitem.asp?id=21874&s=7 |

It's an oldie, I know, but does anyone have any idea what became of the mooted, Mercedes-powered AMG CART team a couple of years back? Drivers were to be Bernd Schneider (hurrah!) and Marcel Tiemann, if I recall. Ah, if only... (Sigh.)

Any more news about the Forsythe thing? Its getting a bit late to start something from nothing now surely?
Ford must be anxious as well, not knowing how many engines to supply & bring to St Petes |

Oops a mistake! I do not think Alex Yoong will be able to match the drivers in the series. If I am proven right where does he go from here?

I think Alex has some level of talent that may not be explored all that much. He did an ok job in Minardi considering the team had no testing, and just as importantly, no spares of useful things like wings and power steering systems and the like.
Have briefcase will travel I guess could see him in the Formula Nissan thing in Spain, or indeed remain with Minardi as one of the many Friday testers they seem to have lined up |

There is a fair whack of unsignwritten space on all those cars macdaddy
I would have thought the Rocketsports car would have been a bit flashier... you can hardly read the Johnson Controls sponsorship on the sidepods |

ST. PETERSBURG -- Standing only a few feet from Bruno Junqueira, and easily within earshot, Jimmy Vasser began applying the pressure everybody keeps asking about when Junqueira becomes the topic of a conversation.
"There's a tremendous amount of pressure on him," Vasser said, the sarcasm and wit more evident with each syllable. "I'm going to put more pressure on him by saying if he doesn't achieve what Cristiano (da Matta) achieved last year it could be the end of his career. You can tell him I said that." |

The Associated Press on the GRAND PRIX OF ST. PETERSBURG
Florida natives Bruno Junqueira (Miami), Sebastien Bourdais (Miami), Roberto Moreno (Weston), Oriol Servia (Miami), Ryan Hunter-Reay (Boca Raton), Mario Haberfeld (Key Biscayne) and Tiago Monteiro (Miami) will be competing in the race. Who says there are no Yanks in CART. |

And true. Just because you were not born in America doesn't mean you're not an American.

What about Paul Tracy? Does this mean he's an American too?

True, but Monteiro's one week in Miami hardly qualifies him as a native.

ASTJ announces new partner
CART 2003-02-21 American Spirit Team Johansson and Merlins Energy Source announce new partnership. Indianapolis, IN (February 21, 2003) -- American Spirit Team Johansson is pleased to announce their partnership with Merlins Energy Source, a leading natural energy drink. The partnership includes associate sponsorship for the #12 entry driven by Jimmy Vasser and the #31 entry driven by Ryan Hunter-Reay in the 2003 Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford. "I am very excited to have Merlins Energy Source on board," commented team owner, Stefan Johansson. He continued, "I have known Tim for a long time. He, along with Sabrina have created a very progressive company and I look forward to developing a good business relationship as we go forward." Timothy Kahn and Sabrina Champi developed Merlins Energy Source four years ago after a visit to Sweden. Merlins will make its debut in Mexico later this year, "I am really excited about our partnership with Stefan (Johansson) and American Spirit Team Johansson. CART and their focus on the NAFTA community offer a fantastic avenue for Merlins Energy Source to introduce itself to the North American market." Commented Kahn. http://www.merlinsenergy.com |

Nice to see some sponsorship for ASTJ, however small the deal is.

Nice looking can! Should make a nice colourful car.
In California you have to live there 5 years before they consider you a native. I don't think they ask any questions in Nevada unless you come from Area 51. (Oops, that is in New Mexico, isn't it?) |

It's the colours the car already is... and Area 51 is in Nevada.
