One off races are certainly not going to attract sponsorship for Australian Teams from the countries they race in.

We have had the likes of F1, CART and WRC down here for donkey's years, and bugger all Australian money from sponsors has backed people in that. Why would an Australian company back it, the majority of the races are shown in the middle of the night here. The same would apply vice versa.

European races would only satisfy the drivers, it wouldn't make money for Tony so why would he bother?
Bartercard has just listed on the UK Stock Exchange,is active in Quatar, starting in India soon and has plans in North America and Mexico.

Ford and Holden export to a lot of countries, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Syria, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, South Africa, New Zealand, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Fiji, Brunei, Brazil, United States, United Kingdom, Korea.More Team (insert brandname here).

Telstra does work in the Middle East and the more V.B.they get rid of overseas the better.

Simplistic I know, but a market may exist for V8's to expand with Australian sponsers for more overseas One off races.

Australian companys and a V8 supercar race coming to your country soon!!!

Who owns TEGA? The Touring Car Entrants Group?? The Team Owners???Craig Gore????

Cochrane doesn't want to be a support category at the AGP (let alone the A1GP race), he's certainly not going to be a support category overseas for a Grand Prix, be bad for the overseas image.

Will the teams seek extra budget from their current sponsors - why would Repco kick in, Supercheap, Westpoint , Pirtek, Autobarn, Dodo etc Why would they pay to race away?

All of you are off ya heads - they'll go to the same locations as this year, possibly with the exclusion of the AGP at Albert Park.

Belly13 - it's nice to dream.
I'd love to see some newer tracks on the Calendar but the crowd is divided as to whether it's at the expense of the local tracks.

Five hours of coverage according to Wayne Cattach

"WPS Racing team owner Craig Gore is looking forward to the Shanghai experience on June 10-12 and sees the potential for further motor racing projects to be established throughout the greater regions of Asia and across the Middle East.

His views are those tinged with the added excitement of seeing his own business interests, which already include significant and wide ranging ties in China, being able to flourish in a complementary environment to his sporting passion." That's what Craig Gore is getting out of it

Pirtek sell hose fittings-might be able to sell a few of those in Dubai

Westpoint is in to Property Developmentand Construction; Funds Management; and Financial Services-Lot of millionaires in China,Dubai and Malaysia just waiting to invest in Australia

The V8's are now in China,it is up to the teams and sponsers to make the most of it

I know what all the teams, drivers, sponsers, etc. are getting out of it - but how is China going to benefit from it? Most people living there wouldn't be able to afford it or heard about it. Financially, they are going to lose hundreds of thousands of $$$. It doesn't make sense to me.

Even if some sponsors have business in China, the current sponsorship deals are being paid for by the Australian arm of the companies, are they going to be happy about the cars they sponsor not racing in Australia?

Marlboro North America sponsors Penske in American Open-Wheel racing, and they encouraged him to switch from the CART World Series to the IRL in 2002, largely because the IRL had all its races in America at that time, while CART had much less. They said that Marlboro had Ferrari for their international exposure

I think a cautious approach is necessary. We don't want to rush the process of going overseas. I think we should add an international round every few years. Who's to say that the Chinese crowd will be more than this year? It may be half that. Half of them probably didin't like it, and the other half had no idea what was going on.

I agree mate. It’s definitely not something we should rush into. Although China did run more smoothly than most predicted, I’d still be weary about quickly rushing into more overseas races.

Was having a bit of a browse and stumbled across this in depth report on Homebush. Looks great – reckon it would sway any doubters! http://www.v8motorsport.com/Site/Red...mebushRace.php

The fact that our sport has grown to the level it has is unbelievable. Who would have thought 10 years ago we’d be racing overseas? But after reading this, I think it just shows the excellent events we can hold in our own backyard.

If as a sponsor China is not in your business plan, just re write it or take your sponsorship dollars elsewhere.

Hey Nabs and GTR,

Found a pic of an old Group A Godzilla, setting the track on fire! http://homepage.mac.com/frank_de_jon...spa%2024h.html

Literally! Ouch

A bit off the topic, but well worth having a look at the site too....

Marlboro North America didn't care a jot about the relative merits of where the CART and IRL series went too. They just wanted the Indy 500. Under US tobacco law, Penske could only run Marlboro stickers in one racing series. This was why they raced one year at Indy in Marlboro colours but whitout signwriting and raced Champ Cars in full colours. Marlboro weren't satisfied with stickerless cars at the Indy 500 so they moved into the IRL series full time the following year.
