Paul, we have a hand scanner that reads those chips (for saddles and horses) so the technology is easily available .

Lets push for all being microchipped.

We're well off topic now, so what the heck. Could barcode scanners be on the gate thus granting entry without the need for tickets. Has the added advantage of letting the Chief know you attended for the (I suspect very rare) times someone might use a pass and not marshal?

Wifey has received her package today,(still waiting for mine) everything fits in the correct place in the wallet, impressive and a step in the right direction.
The only observation that stood out(that hasn't been mentioned), all upgrades are sectioned, but there isn't an I/O to Post Chief upgrade section.

More seriously -

We went to the GP at Spa a couple of years ago. Entry was by ticket (folded over card) with an embedded chip and the gate security had hand scanners to read them on entry.

There does not need to be an I/O to post chief - I/O is optional (as is Flag) - get to Experienced marshal then choose - Post chief, I/O or Flag. If you go I/O and/or flag, just fill in the Post Chief upgrade section when you then decide to move onwards and upwards

Hence the old BMRMC system for upgrading to Observer - main criteria for upgrade seemed to be waist size - one reason why I never made it to Observer

Hmmm. Since when does: " That's because I am not a number! " written in binary, constitute swearing?

I'll keep the new Race Personal Record Card for when I decide to start collecting signatures to upgrade to Race Experienced Marshal and keep my existing Marshals Personal Record Card for the four event and one training day signatures I need to remain a track marshal.

Imagine I'll have to send in these 4/5 signatures at the end of 2012 to get a registration card for 2013?

Can I mix signatures for race and speed events to make up the total?

It would be advisable to use the new card, as it has spaces for the training modules attended, not just training days, which the system now requires. The important thing to bear in mind here is that although the new card is geared towards upgrades, it is not compulsory to upgrade - just use it as an attendance record & go for an upgrade when you feel ready.

You should get your new registration card automatically.

Speed & race are separate disciplines. Look at the front of your Personal Record Card & you'll see that it's in fact a Race Personal Record Card; I assume that separate, different-coloured cards will be issued to Speed marshals.

Same Issue seems to be for those of us who do race and rally, my rally grade is on my plastic card but no rally PRC, I dont intend to upgrade but do collect attendance sigs
I will enquire via a rally forum / MSA to find out the answer

The rally grading scheme is being updated as we speak. It also comes under the MWG which I chair. We are trying to bring closer together the MSA and BRMC schemes so we have one scheme that is fit for purpose.

I expect to see this implemented in 2013, until then just collect signatures on rally events on a separate sheet.

Any more questions - you know who to ask

Thanks Chris, I was planning to ask another more local member of the MWG
