Always nice to see and hear these machines, reminds me of my early days when you could lie in your tent and know exactly where on the track these machines were

Do we know the actual timetable yet? The LM website still shows last year. |

I guess. The Legends race will presumably be 10ish or 11ish depending on a one make series?

That is going to be one hell of a job, i am sure parts will have to be hand made and there is no haynes manual to consult

There is a part-programme on there, I nicked it as usual for my site, but it doesn't specify any details of the 'supporting acts', not even the wonderful bands that will be inflicted upon us......

My money is on the Boney M Experience, featuring one original member's cousin and a guitar tech who once shook hands with their manager. I can hardly wait! |

The Robots are one of the few musical acts that I would miss the race for!
Of course they'd only play for a couple of hours, I'd still have 22 more hours of racing! |

Quite often the acts playing on Wednesday/Thursday are better than those playing during the race

As GFJ says the Peugeot's did get down to 3.21 in 92 which compares to the 3.22 that claimed pole last year, so I am pretty sure given a committed driver, good tyre's and a no expense spared approach, then a last generation Group C could be faster than a 2013 car. It would look a dam sight better and sound pretty good as well. I do find it hard to watch the Group C retro races, If you saw them in period I think you would understand why. Still look amazing, but they don't often look like there is much pace. Can fully understand why and appreciate the efforts the drivers and owners make, but its not the same. |

Which is why I am going to La Sarthe in June and not July this year, to see the real thing. i was there for a lot of the group C years and agree that seeing those cars being raced now there is not the same excitement. Wonderful looking cars, great to remember those days, but today's cars will be historic before too long and we can look back on them then with the same rosy glow. And for those who think P2 makes up the numbers, C2 was just as exciting back then and gave at least as good racing as P2 does these days. Roll on June

Old group C cars can still make a good race but it takes two even cars and to motivated drivers to make the race good great

A pack of 90's GT1 cars would be fascinating to see running the Legends race, but just the fact that many of them are too expensive for privateers to race. And some them weren't even sold to collectors, I think.
But thank G we have events like the Goodwood Festival of Speed were you can see at least some of those machines doing - let's not say flat out - but at leat 70 % pace. Edit: But then other than Group C, we have these IMSA WSC or early LMP prototypes like Ferrari 333SP or Riley&Scott-Ford/Oldsmobile/Mopar/Judd etc. Those open-top and flat-bottomed prototypes which were introduced in US after the demise of IMSA GTP series. WSC cars were relatively cheap and had relatively primitive technology. So why not 333SP's in the Legends race? Or would a lack of participating cars be too plausible?
