I don't mind having the Alta Chicane stay because it is a challenge. Every year it is the one corner that is guranteed to provide an incident of some sort as a driver tries to push just that bit too hard through it. However I would strongly support getting rid of the Bassa & Villeneuve chicanes, which would also provide 2 extra overtaking oppertunities, rather than the none which currently exist. Anybody know whether they have managed to get the money to move the pits & paddock or not?

I don't like Nick's edit at all (sorry). I think that Tamburello would be very near the river, if not over it, the run up to, and the corner itself, at Piratella have been ruined (it is still one of the best & most challenging corners on the circuit) & the changes at Alta would take away the challenge of the current corner, while making overtaking even harder. It destroys any flow left in the circuit in my opinion.

I have to agree with Af (sorry Nicky).
I believe, that the old Tamburello should be re-instated, I believe it could be done safetly. I also believe that the Villeneuve kink could be re-instated. With the Variante Bassa being changed into a right left final chicane, constructed so overtaking is possible. I also believe that Piratella, Tosa, the Rivazza's and Variante Alta are all integral and irreplaceable corners. I also like the Acque Mineralli. I like Imola, it just needs to go back to pre-1995, something I believe could be done safely. Maybe make the track at Tamburello slightly narrower, to gain a little bit of extra run off - just wack a nice SAFER wall in... no problem. |

I would be in favour of getting rid of Bassa & keeping Tamburello as it is to allow overtaking, then getting rid of Villeneuve, allowing overtaking into Tosa. The rest of the circuit should stay as it is.
Oh, & put the pits on the other side of the circuit. |

I'm not an Autosport subscriber either. I get on quite well without it. It's not hard to get the same news off another site, even if it does take a couple of hours longer to get there. Any other news that is missed by other sites I soon pick up on here!

My second proposal. I have created an over taking opertunity at rivazza and I have turned aqua minerali in to a fast downhill - Uphill corner.

AF. I like the Bassa to be honest, and I'd love to see the old run from Tamburello down to Tosa again, no interuptions. Magic. I hate the Tamburello chicane - does nothing for me. Yeah wack the pits the other side.

That's the old Aqua Minerale, TR. They changed that to it's current state in, I believe, 1995.

My proposal would just be - the old Start-Finish - Upto Piratella and the new Acque Mineralli to start/finish. With opposite side pitland, and a big grandstand where the current pits are.

It might be the old Acque Minerale but it doesn't mean to say that it doesn't ruin it! Heres my version.
. Got rid of Bassa, swapped the side of the pits, tightened the Tamburello chicane (whether it is safe or not the chances of the old style Tamburello being put back are tiny & unrealistic), got rid of Villeneuve & slightly loosened Rivazza 2 to allow it to be nearly flat out. |

My new go at Imola.
Got rid of Bassa. More or less straightened out the run from Rivazza to Tamburello, moved pits to other side of track and lengthened pit straight. Loosened Villeneuve to hopefully make it more flowing. Tightened the run from Variante Alta to Rivazza. Rounded out Rivazza into one corner. |
