Jaguar XF VLN / Nurburgring 24hr Entry
January 1st, 2012 sees the launch of a new era for Carvell Motorsport Limited as the team moves to take on the challenge of the formidable Nurburgring Nordschleife in the VLN Championship with an exciting new race car programme.
Running a brand new car for the Championship - a modified 2012 model year Jaguar XF 3.0-litre Diesel S in the D3T class - the team will embark on an intesive test programme in January ahead of the first VLN round in April. Why a Jaguar XF and not the usual (and highly effective) BMW 330d? The main team members are Automotive Engineers by day, and the emotive appeal of taking a class-leading, British-designed and built road car and developing it into a competitive racer was one too strong to resist. Following considerable personal investment by the team members, the XF's transformation from road machine to racer has taken place at Carvell Motorsport's home in Daventry, where technical input from a number of key partners has ensured the car has been built to the highest standard. In addition to the VLN Championship, the team is also targeting an entry into the formidable 24hr race at the Nurburgring in May, where we intend to run as a fund raising effort in aid of a local children's hospice for children under 5 years old. Engine choice a necessity for endurance racing really, the V8 would be fine for sprints but simply too thirsty long distance.
It sounds pretty good though, a bit like a low revving 911 thanks to the fine exhaust that BTB made for us. |

Same Caparo but slightly different part of the group. They made the front splitter and rear diffuser for us.

Program update: We've commenced our test programme and last weekend the car ran faultlessly at Bruntingthorpe. All being well we expect to have regular news updates on our website and some good photos after this coming weekend.

Yesterday we ran a pretty full test schedule at Silverstone on the GP circuit. No issues with the car although one of our drivers had a minor spin with no damage caused.
Thanks to anyone on here who came and said Hi and to take a look at the car. Your support is hugely appreciated. |

For a good part of the day, the drivers were David and Rob Carvell. In the afternoon, we ran a few prospective drivers to give them a feel for the car and see how we work together. Obviously we can't name those drivers for now.

I have to say thanks to this site and some of the other motorsport forums because we've had a great deal of interest and well wishes from you all.
Happy to say we'll be out testing again on Friday 9th at Silverstone to see if the work we've done of late has paid off. Only 3 weeks to the VLN test /press day
