But in the old Concorde agreement there had to be a certain number of races in Europe, I don't know whats in the new one.

According to Joe Saward Bernie E is feeling generous in his old age and is not going to charge the German GP organisers a fee for this years race. This leaves CVC with an $18 million hole in their revenue. I suspect there will be many theories as to why this has happened and it should be fun speculating.

i think it's clearly up against the wall time for a lot of european economies, and it became obvious that there was absolutely no way the nurburgring was ever going to find the fee. what local area (or even national government) now has that kind of money to throw away on an event that brings in people but that doesn't contribute that much to the local economy? in real terms that's a number of very significant investments to help companies set up new bases and factories in the area. that sort of use of the funds has a far more obvious long term positive effect than a f1 grand prix at a venue that's already well established and not really going to benefit from any additional publicity.
i think it's sensible by bernie. alienating germany by taking away the race without even replacing it with another venue would be seriously unwise. i don't know where it leaves his relationship with many of the other traditional venues on the calendar though. i don't see it in terms of keeping the german prosecuters sweet, but i'm sure there's an element of that. |

from what i have read the relief is for this years race. im surprised he gave them this long to pay the fees for this year. by taking the chance that they could fail to make the payment so close to the race date and risk a last minute cancellation he gave the German GP promoters an enormous amount of leverage which in it of itself is unusual for BE.
no doubt it will be spun as generosity but wow i havent seen BE slip on a deal like this ever. secondary thought, what did the German GP promoters do with their proceeds from the ticket sales from individuals, from corporate groups, and advertising income? there have been rumors of insolvency for the past few years so i would guess that they are servicing old debts so then i would be curious to know who they owe money too and what banks hold that paper. |

I doubt we will see a boycott before the race.
But I cannot imagine Pirelli will have this mess sorted out by Friday so I imagine one blow-out during practice will cause the race to be cancelled by Charlie & Company... ...or we will have a boycott. ![]() |

If they can't find a safe option, suspend the championship points and have the drivers race in other machinery for the weekend as a one-off show event - would be great fun to see the field racing in a spec series car.
