At this level, I suppose because I don't know any competitors personally and I'm not fussed about the results, I usually follow cars that get my attention ( for any reason) or battles that may look more heated than others (regardless of which position). The car is imprinted in my mind now.

I'm not saying it's bad, but it's an odd choice. Here's a stack of cash, you can only spend it on amateur level motorsport, and you pick a Starlet? If I was competing in u2 IP, I go for a 1.8 Laser or 323 (off the top of my head). It's an unusual choice as far I'm concerned. Not having a pop at him.
I guess it all depends on cost, there was a starlet in NSW that used to win almost everything so i guess there is potential there for the car, myself I think a Honda Civic would have to be a decent option. Ahhh if only we had money!

I think your comment about the MG is a bit harsh, due to the rain the oil dump was exaggerated as it spread so fast in the water. I also believe in those conditions in the morning it would of been hard to know you had an oil leak it was so wet. Ultimately as per an email the clerk of course put out (I have included an extract below) there were a huge amount of incidents from nearly every category. Hopefully the rest of the year doesn't include quite so many incidents!

Quote:
I have been involved in running these race meeting since the 1980’s and I can say without any exaggeration that this was the most disrupted, interrupted and difficult I have ever experienced. According to Gary Grants statistics we had 15 multi car collisions and 14 single car collisions. Not to mention 5 cars losing wheels, probably the biggest oil clean-up I have ever seen (70 bags of soaker required). Multiple barrier repairs - even the sound fence required repair after one crash and the use of the jaws of life to free a driver. I would hate to add up all the lost time required to attend to all these incidents.

Through all of this driver induced mayhem, our team of race officials worked and worked and worked to keep the meeting in operation. Unfortunately most drivers have no concept of the demands made on race officials both in the preparation and operation of these meetings and all of us are volunteers.

May I take this opportunity to publicly thank every last one of the race officials who turned up and gave up their weekend. All of you should feel immensely proud of the skill, commitment, energy and enthusiasm that maximised the number of laps that the drivers got, largely despite themselves. It is a tribute to you all that the drivers got the amount of track time that they did. It seemed that no matter what nature and the endless stream of incidents threw at us, we all contributed much more than could be reasonably expected. I salute you all and thank you for your persistence and the well known Aussie trait to carry through to the end no matter what.

I am sure I speak for the management of the MG Car Club of Victoria when I say thank you and well done.

David Vernall

Maybe it is Sandown in May - I vaguely remember more interruptions at this corresponding meeting over the past few years, than rounds 1,2 or 4.

Speaking of NSW. A bit of a pity that users from other states don't have thread for their local competitions.

The Vicious Rumour Ferrari had some great pace for sure, we even showed the Viper how to get a lap record! Bugger! Shoulda been ours... oh well...

The crash was a bit bizarre.... lapping the Orange cobra who appeared to be struggling with gears, we went outside, the Viper went inside at the last corner.... outside was the wrong choice but regardless of that the Cobra moved and kept moving further wide until we were forced on the grass.... after that, with two wet wheels and running out of room, its a miracle the car isn't too badly damaged. Just a right rear guard to be fitted by the paint shop and the rest is all bolt on stuff.

The saddest bit is that it was our painter that was killed the week before.

Anyway, we were due to upgrade to 2013 spec so most of what got damaged was about to be redundant anyway... every cloud....!

So the car hit the wall and bounced back onto the middle of the track?

I'm doing nothing for the next vscrc rounds. I come cheap. I definitely won't crash it.

Next round of the VSCRC is on next weekend (July 20-21) at Sandown.

Free entry on the hill again.

After a number of years doing club sprints and tarmac rallies I'm all set for my first go at circuit racing. Looking forwards to it.

Nobody in the right mind was at Sandown today.

4wd was obviously the way to go in todays conditions.

We "could" have had the Defelice 458 GT3 there...... JUST finished from the panel shop.....

I've not been accused of being in my right mind much before, so thanks....

"Vicious Rumour" has it that another 458GT3 is winging its' ways to our shores any day now....

Had the audit scrutiny first thing Sunday morning and something I didn't know was a kill switch test on the running car sends the ECU into limp mode. So first I knew about it was as I drove onto the track for the out lap to take my position on pole. 80km/hr and 2000rpm in any gear was the max I could do.

It's only a 5 min fix to come in and plug in the lappy and re-set the ECU but it put an end to my race unfortunately. So that was put down to a nice first race weekend learning experience.

Starting from the back of the grid in race 3 was also a nice experience to get anyways as coming through the field from 20th through to 5th was a lot of fun and probably taught me more than what doing 12 laps in about that same finishing spot for the whole race was going to give me (given I don't have the pace of the front GT cars in the dry to run with them).

Was a fun weekend and I look forwards to the next one with hopefully a few more tweaks to be a bit closer in the dry. Or else I'm happy if it wants to rain again as well.

It looked like a 1.5 to 2 second lead by the time you went past the grandstand.
