Well apparently it was for pit stops.

The tents would have been used anyway, so no additional cost there.

The concrete blocks dividing the pit lane from the track would have been there anyway so no additional cost there - although there may be a few extra blocks than previously.

Those of you who remember the old location will know that there was a large amount of temporary roadway put in - that stuff ain't cheap and that cost no longer needs to be spent.

Power - same, water - same.

Hospitality on top of the V8 pit lane - increased revenue to AGPC.

So, I'm at a bit of a loss to understand what the "additional costs" are - and therefore what all the fuss is about?
Don't forget the track modifications to accomodate the two pit lane entrances.

Clearly it was built at some investment to the taxpayer funded AGP Corporation for the purpose of including pit stops in the races. This was the prime purpose as touted by both V8 Supercars and the AGP Corporation in 2011.

As this is a non-championship event, I wonder if the offer was made to any of the DVS teams running a current spec car to enter?
I know it would be budget dependent, but I would have thought the exposure would have made it worthwhile?

Do the REC holders receive a cut of the appearance fee? This maybe the determining factor.

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Are we still discussing this,

the v8 pit structure is revenue positive due to the value added tickets being sold to sit in them for corporate hospitality

yes ther was some constructions costs 5 plus years ago but that is now complete.you can buy a ticket $1545 for the pit entry v8 supercars suite, it is in a key part of the track bring pit entry and last corner

Thanks for clearing that up.

Could you please share where the cost of the structure can be found?

It would be interesting to understand his many tickets need to be sold to pay for it.

no, its commercially sensitive, wont be telling you how much it cost to set up a grand stand either which provides no racing benefit, just spectator viewing, do you want to know how many tickets have to be sold to pay for the grandstands, or is it only off interest if the v8s can be attacked? Would people like to know how much it costs to set up the tent for the GT3 cars also? That cost is totally a sunk cost, guess we should cull them

but a tent is a tent, the cost of setting it up for the v8s in the middle of the paddock is similar to setting it up in pitlane. the key difference is that there is now have some permanent infrastructure in place which in theory would provide long term savings. HoweverIn this case though, a 2nd level is being completed to provide the fantastic viewing area at pit entry which is then sold for $1500 plus This is where the bulk of the spending goes, for setting up that viewing area for spectators not for the v8s.

But hey its interesting how many people from other states are so worried about how much the vic government are spending, that they keep bringing the topic up year after year. I think that's called trolling. to dumb to learn i guess

My understanding is that it was first done as part of an upgrade of the v8 deal at the AGP - pit stops were included but only those who have seen the contract would know if the pit building would only be used if there were pit stops.

Clearly, much of the structure is providing additional corporate space to that previously available and as the V8 teams are in tents (same as they had before) the more serious structure must be the corporate area - a net income generator for the AGPC.

If those track modifications were barrier movements, there would be more barrier in use but I would suggest not a great deal more and as the AGPC manufacture new barrier each year, existing plans would most likely cover any such costs.

The pit stops were definitely a purpose as stated back in 2011 - but so was the corporate area which generates income for the the AGPC. Who knows, maybe by not doing pit stops the V8s get paid less by AGPC - making this a good deal for the taxpayer - less paid out but more coming in from corporate.

God I hope not - they're often a mess, these guys are not used to them so potentially an even greater mess and they tend to spread the field which might be OK for a longer race but for shorter races doesn't help.

Has the Ford signage increased?
EDIT: No, same. Seems more noticable on this livery.

How come no V8's on Fox today? Went to set it up to tape and nothing was on, bit confusing, thought Fox showed everything.

Because it's not part of the championship? Best guess.

Same here... After I stopped cursing and throwing my dummy I assumed that Fox has no broadcast rights at the AGP and probably not even allowed to show the track!!! Not a real round... not really interested in a demonstration race or 3 at any rate so will watch whatever FTA has to offer!!!

Fox will be on tomorrow and the rest of the weekend.

Last years coverage was much better than the ten coverage as in more racing less celebraties

But the coverage is produced by the F1 media people, not the v8 media people so it is different.

There will, as discussed earlier in the thread, be ads in the foxtel coverage
