Anybody had any joy with getting travel insurance for this trip ? I've tried a couple of companies and they won't touch us if we're doing manual labour, which is what moving broken cars after racing, etc., is.

Does the BARC insurance cover us for this, so all we need is general travel insurance as if we're tourists ?

Yes, thats what I saw somewhere else. Just for usual things including flights, money, and anything out side the circuit. Apart from that I presume were covered as usual like we would be if we were attending the GP over here, when we sign on.

I got mine fromm The AA online. and printed the documents off as well.

It did say in the letter we had.

Insurance cover at the circuit is similar to what the MSA provides in this country.

Thanks for all the well wishes, We'll do you all proud, as we Brit Marshals know how to

Foreign Exchange Deal From Travelex

Travelex are offering all marshals travelling to Abu Dhabi commission free foreign exchange & a 1% improvement on the rate on all walk-up transactions from 21st October. To qualify for this deal, you will need to present ID to prove that you are a marshal e.g. BMMC or equivalent card or BARC documentation showing you are part of the Abu Dhabi party.

There are no Travelex bureaux at Manchester Airport but the deal also applies at Abu Dhabi airport.

Hi,

Just read a large part of this thread, interesting insight into what you guys are up to and some of the organisation required, certainly happy to know you'll be there and helping to train the locals. I do travel worldwide in my job and British Marshals (you guys) are regarded as the best in the world.

I'm not a marshal but a racer myself and primarilly a driver coach. I'll be in Abu-Dhabi with 2 drivers that I am coaching in the Chevrolet V8 Supercars Championship. Primarilly Raed Raffii in the Orange Meezer Class A car and Husam Al-Saleh in the Hala Class B car.

If I see you guys there I'll be sure to say hello. Any of you that work at Donington/Snetterton/Cadwell/Rockingam etc. may recognise me as I am often at these circuits. I am senior instructor with Lotus-on-Track and The Racing School (who operate at Donni & Rock) [Little fella, greying beard]

Anway, just thought i'd say Hi and advise of a bit of British Interest in the V8 races.

Malcolm

Thanks Malcolm,
it would be nice to see you, but not your drivers, if you know what I mean.
Good luck to all the guys/girls going out this week. Have fun and see you all next Tuesday.
Don't forget Passport and money, everything else is optional. Make sure you keep both those things safe while your out there. I'm not in any way casting doubts on our hosts, but you know what happened at this years British GP.

Just be a bit wary of this as I think Travelex normally provide a worse rate at airports than they do for advance purchases so the offer might still end costing you more than buying in advance with them or elsewhere. On the other hand if you do leave it to the last minute then it would benefit you. Just check!

Well all packed, passport in a safe place and butterflies in my stomach!

Thanks to all those wishing us well and also to those who have given us advice! For those who watch the F1 practice on the red button, the commentators said they would try and speak to some of us, so we may make it on to the TV at some point

And those at home, make sure you do your best armchair marshaling!

Suitcase packed, cats in jail (OK, a cattery!), train tickets arrived yesterday, taxi booked for 4.45am (for a 5.15am train ). Time to relax with a beer. and roll on the sun

See the rest of the travelling 10/10thers out there. For those back home, watch out for us on TV and play "spot the 10/10ther on BBC1)
