Thanks Eric ! I'm really looking forward to be seeing the cars from that new viewing area. One can see the cars popping up over a crest at full chat to then display the brakes into Indy very well at night time.
Nice. But will there be an earth banking being constructed as well, one wonders. |

This theme park stuff had better not obscure the track. There is enough corporate rubbish getting in the way trackside as it is.

I don't think the works down at Arnage/Indy look that bad, the cut originally looked like it was going to take out both Indy and Arnage from the public road, this just takes Arnage and we get to see the cars braking from their fastest point as they enter the complex.

More amazing news.
https://www.autoclub.fr/en/news/mars...477_23848.html Though one can consider the procedures gone over on Saturday, March 5th as active safety measures, passive safety will still be in force for the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans. Rows of protective tyres will be added at various spots on the circuit. For example among others: Tertre Rouge, Corvette turn, but also at an alsphalt area at Indianapolis as replacement for the gravel trap that was prone to trapping cars in an exposed area. |

They are both Indianapolis and have continuously been referred as so. Or what would you call the second gravel trap then?

My understanding of this is that the huge gravel trap to the left of the right hand kink immediately before Indianapolis will remain. The small gravel trap on the outside of Indianapolis will be replaced with asphalt.
I don't like asphalt run off for two reasons: it can be used as a piece of race track to when it shouldn't be; and it allows mistakes to go relatively unpunished. However, this doesn't seem so bad to me. This is way off the racing line, and the run off area here is very small. It is also a difficult area to clear if someone gets stuck here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVs7YEommKI |

Can't they AstroTurf' it instead? It's slippy, most drivers don't like to drive on it.
I don't like Tarmac because drivers can recover from mistakes relatively easy. |

Yes the one on the right. It'll be just as bad as when they asphaltized the unnamed corner after Rivage at Spa. About same speeds too right.
But as I've said billion times already, it doesn't really matter in the end considering it's an inevitability that in ten years time all of the surface outside racing line will be made of tarmac like Dubai or whatever, in their F1 standards lust. We are just waiting. |

I don't think anyone will use that extra asphalt as the racing line, but it will mean some will have less of a penalty for a small mistake. |

Are they going to fill it all in, or part of it closer to the track?

If it had been just asphalt extension they would have referenced to it as "shoulder" like before. "As replacement for the gravel trap" sounds pretty complete to me, particularly if it indeed is for the second corner which isn't that huge to begin with
Or perhaps they leave like half a meter of gravel next to the wall, but at that stage it's meaningless anyway |
