The cars are lined up for the first race of the day, and with lights out they are underway.
Sutton makes a great start and is up into 1st, whilst further back Jelley has made up 6 places heading into the 1st corner, climbing to 22nd. Jelley then runs into trouble though and loses the back end, spinning round and having to drop to the back of the field. Neal passes O.Jackson to move into 4th. Plato is also on the move, taking 13th from Crees. As they cross the line, Neal and Plato have both picked up another place each and look right on form. Moffat drops to 4th behind Neal, and Neate drops to 13th behind Plato. Lap 2, Smiley makes an error that allows Hamilton to get passed into 17th. Jelley starts to make his attempts to get back up the field, pushing past Oliphant to leave him at the back of the field. Hamilton picks up another place to take 16th from Gornall. Cammish continues to show his speed this season, putting down another marker for fastest lap. Lap 3, and a bit of shuffling of the pack. O.Jackson passes Moffat for 4th. Thompson squeezes by Turkington to make it into the top ten. Chilton takes 20th place from Morgan, and Butcher climbs to 26th ahead of Proctor. Jordan pulls up the inside of Moffat, and pushes him wide. This gives Rowbottom a chance to slip through too, with Moffat down to 7th. Hamilton and Gornall make contact. Gornall is unaffected, but Hamilton ends up running onto the grass and careers off into the barriers. His race is over for. M.Jackson moves closer to the front, picking up 7th place from Moffat who has gone backwards this lap. Plato also inches towards the top ten, passing Turkington for 11th. Smiley makes an error allowing Ingram and Chilton through and dropping him to 19th. Boardley picks up 14th at the expense of Neate. Lap 4, Goff moves ahead of Butcher to take 24th. In the lower points positions, Crees manages to pass Turkington to take 12th. Morgan drops behind Hill down into 21st, whilst up at the front, Neal gets a great run on Cook and manages to get ahead into 2nd place. Cammish also gains a place, taking 8th place from Moffat and as he crosses the line, he’s set another fastest lap. Lap 5, Cammish continues to look impressive as he eases by M.Jackson into 7th. Chilton makes an error and puts a wheel onto the grass. As a result, he drops two places to 20th behind Smiley and Hill. Boardley shows a turn of pace and in the space of two corners, gets by both Crees and Turkington to take 12th. Midway through the lap, Cammish picks off another place and gets ahead of Rowbottom into 6th. Lap 6, and big changes to the order. Neal moves into the lead and takes 1st place from Sutton. Jordan is up to 4th passing O.Jackson. Moffat picks up a place taking 8th from M.Jackson. Neate, Cress and Turkington all get into a tangle. Neate comes out ahead in 13th, and Crees is down to 15th. Smiley runs wide, and both Hill and Chilton get by, leaving Smiley in 20th. Boardley has a bit of a moment, losing the back end momentarily. That allows Neate through up into 12th. Bushell runs wide and has a spin. He drops to the back of the field as a result. Morgan moves up from 21st with a pass on Smiley. Cammish gets ahead of O.Jackson to move into the top five. Lap 7, Oliphant climbs up to 26th ahead of Jelley. Towards the end of the lap, Turkington pulls into the pit lane. The car is not sounding healthy, and the team are straight under the bonnet. It looks like they’re retiring the car with a problem and will look to get it fixed in time for race two. Lap 8, Crees takes 13th place from Boardley. Plato is up into the top ten, taking a place from Thompson. Butcher and Smiley swap places, Butcher up to 20th. Crees continues to move forward and attempts a pass on Neate. In the contact, Neate picks up a puncture. He’s able to get round into the pits for a fresh tyre, but it drops him to last place. Lap 9, Hill gets into the points edging out Ingram for 15th place. Proctor and Oliphant have a little bump, and Proctor’s car is unsettled allowing Oliphant and Jelley through and dropping Proctor to 25th. Cress moves into 11th ahead of Thompson, whilst Gornall climbs into 13th passing Boardley. Osborne also gains a place taking 20th from Smiley. Lap 10, Oliphant continues to aim for the points, but still has work to do as he moves into 22nd getting by Goff. Boardley moves back ahead of Gornall into 13th. Goff loses another place to Jelley who takes 23rd. Lap 11, Jordan makes an error and runs wide. The loss of momentum allows Cammish through to take 4th. Boardley is running slow as he comes out of the first corner and looks to have lost all power. He can’t get going, and cruises off the track to a safe place and is out of the car, race over. In the middle of the lap, Rowbottom takes 6th place from O.Jackson. As they complete the lap, Bushell moves up into 24th ahead of Proctor. Lap 12, the PMR drivers switch places with M.Jackson taking up 9th place. Osborne overtakes Butcher to take 18th. Morgan tries to pass Chilton for 16th place, but there is contact between the two. Morgan’s front wheel caught the arches of Chilton, and Morgan’s picked up a puncture. It’s a long crawl back to the pits for a tyre change, and he’s passed by the whole field in the process. Crossing the line, Cammish has moved into a podium place taking 3rd from Cook. Butcher re-takes 17th from Osborne. Whilst Proctor moves into 23rd ahead of Bushell. Lap 13, Hill looks to bolster his points tally, overtaking Gornall to move into 13th and then immediately passes Thompson to take 12th. Chilton and Ingram are competing for the last point, with Chilton now taking up 15th place. Lap 14, Morgan moves up from 26th overtaking Neate. At the lower end of the points, Thompson and Gornall switch places with Gornall up to 13th. M.Jackson moves further forward, getting ahead of Moffat to take 8th. As they complete the lap, Neate has moved back into 25th ahead of Morgan. Lap 15, and Morgan repeats his move from the last lap to get ahead of Neate again. Both drivers seem desperate to avoid last place. Oliphant gains another place to move up into 19th ahead of Smiley. Lap 16, final lap. Plato moves up behind his teammate into 9th place, taking the slot from Moffat. Chilton picks up another place as he overtakes Thompson for 14th. At the front, Cammish pressures Sutton into a mistake. Sutton runs too far into braking and Cammish can slide passed and makes it a Honda 1-2. As the drivers take the flag, the final order sees Neal take the win ahead of Cammish. Then it’s Sutton, Cook, Jordan, Rowbottom, O.Jackson, M.Jackson, Plato and Moffat. |

Race 2, and the starting grid is formed from the Race 1 results.
The Dynamics pair are both slightly slow off the line, and are passed by Sutton who takes the lead into turn one. Cook also gets ahead of Cammish into 3rd. Chilton is up into 15th and Smiley into 17th. Through Sector one, Crees runs wide onto the grass and has to drop to the back of the field. Thompson overtakes Ingram to move into 15th. Midway through the lap, Proctor has a spin and he drops back. He now takes over last place from Crees. Cammish takes 3rd place back from Cook. Completing the lap, Bushell takes 21st place from Jelley. Lap two, and Butcher is the latest to take to the grass. With the field still being close, he drops to last before he can re-join. Ingram moves up into 14th passing Thompson. Boardley moves ahead of Morgan into 23rd. Completing the lap, Oliphant is up into 16th with Smiley dropping to 17th. Chilton puts a marker in for Fastest Lap. Lap three, Plato gets ahead of Moffat to take 8th. His team mate M.Jackson though drops a place, falling behind Chilton into 11th. Over the line, Boardley is slow out of the last corner and drops to 25th behind Turkington and Morgan. Lap four, and everyone looks to have settled into position. At the end of the lap though, Sutton pulls into the pits having slowed drastically. He pulls up at the garage, and the team start checking under the bonnet. Shaking of heads all around, and the engine is switched off. It looks like he’s got a terminal fault, and having been running in first, his race is over. Neal crosses the line in the lead, and has also set a new fastest lap. Lap five, Neate and Jelley come together. Neate is turned round, and struggles to recover. He rejoins at the back of the field. Part way round the lap, Rowbottom makes a slight error and the loss of momentum allows Plato through into 6th. Jelley moves in front of Bushell into 19th. Plato makes up another place at the end of the lap, and is into 5th passing O.Jackson. Smiley is going slowly. He pulls into the pits, and is straight out of the car at the garage – race over with a loss of power. Lap six, Thompson picks up 14th overtaking Oliphant. Rowbottom has picked up a puncture. He’s continuing, but it’s a long way back to the pits. He’s dropped back to last before he can get in and out of the pits. Lap seven, and the Dynamics drivers swap places, with Cammish now taking the lead. Chilton and Moffat trade paint, and Moffat gets out of shape. Chilton moves through into 7th, and Hill follows past to take 8th. Jelley is just outside the points, having taken 16th from Goff. Lap eight, and there is a bit of a melee at the back of the field. Proctor passes Thompson to take 22nd, which causes a bit of bunching just behind. Neate takes the chance to move up to 24th, with Crees dropping back. Butcher also falls to the back of the field, behind Rowbottom. Further round the lap, Plato moves up into 4th managing to squeeze by Jordan. Crees fights back and takes 24th back from Neate. Cammish has taken the chance to set a new fastest lap running in free air at the front. Lap nine, and there is quite a lot of shuffling going on throughout the field. Jordan takes 4th back from Plato. Chilton gets ahead of O.Jackson into 6th. M.Jackson is up into 9th in front of Moffat. Thompson drops behind Oliphant into 14th. Boardley has the biggest change through, spinning onto the grass before recovering and joining back into last place. Goff manages to complete a pass on Jelley, taking 16th. O.Jackson drops a further place at the end of the lap, as Hill takes 7th. Jelley also takes 16th back from Goff as they cross the line. Lap ten, Proctor has a moment and runs wide. As he rejoins, he makes contact with Neate and they both lose momentum. It takes them a while to gather things up, and Neate ends up last just behind Proctor. Gornall is up into the top ten, getting ahead of Moffat. Morgan is trying to get into the points, and picks up two places to move into 16th. Crees takes 20th from Turkington. Neate climbs up from the back of the field to take 26th from Proctor. As they cross the line at the end of the lap, M.Jackson has picked up 8th overtaking O.Jackson. Neate climbs another place getting ahead of Boardley into 25th. Lap eleven, and it seems that Proctor’s issues last lap have continued. His pace has dropped dramatically, it looks like there is some damage. He pulls off and gets out of the car. Retired. O.Jackson gets back in front of M.Jackson to climb into 8th. Thompson moves up into 13th ahead of Oliphant. Goff is trying to get into the points, taking 17th from Jelley, whilst Rowbottom drops to 24th behind Butcher. Jordan moves back into a podium place, taking 3rd from Cook. Moffat gets a bit out of shape and the loss of momentum allows Ingram and Thompson through, dropping Moffat to 13th. At the end of the lap, Neate picks up 24th from Rowbottom. Lap twelve, Moffat moves ahead of Thompson into 12th. M.Jackson out-brakes himself and is passed by Gornall who is up into 9th. Bushell and Jelley trade paint, and Bushell is able to get ahead into 18th. As they complete the lap, Boardley moves out of last place and ahead of Rowbottom. Lap thirteen, Chilton climbs up a place to take 5th from Plato. Just a little further back, Hill drops behind O.Jackson into 8th. Butcher picks up a place, passing Hamilton to take 22nd. Morgan tries to pass Goff, and makes contact with his car. Goff suffers a puncture as a result, and has to call into the pits. He drops to the back of the field before he can get back out. Lap fifteen, Hill and O.Jackson are battling for a place. O.Jackson ends up running off the track and struggles to keep it together on the grass. He manages to stop, and then get pointing the right way. Eventully, back onto the track, he’s dropped from 7th to 18th. With just over a lap to go, there’s a change for the lead as Neal moves ahead of Cammish. O.Jackson climbs up to 17th as he tries to recover some points. Neate passes Hamilton to take 22nd. Over the line, Butcher pulls ahead of Turkington into 20th. Boardley gets ahead of Hamilton into 23rd and Rowbottom is slow out of the last corner, allowing Goff past into 25th. Onto the last lap. Cook gets up into a podium place, taking 3rd from Jordan. Hamilton continues to drop places at the back, falling into 25th behind Goff. Chilton follows Cook in passing Jordan. It looks like Jordan’s tyres have gone off as he is now down into 5th. As the flag drops, Jordan loses another place as Plato gets past into 5th place. Jordan dropped from 3rd to 6th on the last lap. The final order is: Neal, Cammish, Cook, Chilton, Plato, Jordan, Hill, Gornall, M.Jackson and Ingram rounding out the top ten. Moffat, Thompson, Oliphant, Osborne, with Morgan in 15th. Bushell, O.Jackson, Jelley, Crees, Butcher, Turkington, Neate, Boardley, Goff, Hamilton, Rowbottom. DNFs – Proctor, Smiley and Sutton. |

This is great. I would be interested to know more about how you decide the results. I understand how some mathematical formula is used to decide the grid positions, but do you just make up the races. Surely the events of every lap cannot be decided by a formula. I sometimes do a similar thing myself, but mine doesn't use any maths. I just make up a realistic grid for a race meeting, and then essentially watch each of the three races in my head, making it up as I go along, with the grid for each race decided in the same way as in real life. Is yours the same?

How close was it to the actual season? Based on my expectations, I wasn’t surprised to see Motorbase, Dynamics and Tingram up there, but the action in the races is something that can go any which way. Overall though if Sutton did a brilliant job to win the title, I felt Tingram, Butcher and Cammish could have been in proper contention come the finale at Brands, but for bad luck in races. Just the way it goes, another season could have been a very different story
