Loved this line from an Avesco spokesperson in regard to this issue "we (v8s) take precedence over the AFL. Always have. Always will."

Whatever is being smoked in Avesco head office, I wouldnt mind some.

The Artist Formerly Known As Avesco's only hope of a 10 telecast on September 10 is if the AFL agree to move their match to a 6pm start. This is unlikely because 10 would not show it in prime time in NSW/Queensland as AFL ratings are very poor in those states.I think the best solution is to move it to 27 August-no Fathers Day and no AFL on 10.

Provided there is no horse race meeting scheduled for that date - there isn't?

Is there?

Having recently going through the ordeal of converting my early '90s stuff to DVD from Video, I can tell you Im glad of the move, maybe not perfect but heaps better!

BTW, does anyone here watch the Supercross on Fox on Fridays, if not is that because there are more ads there than in the DAMN TRADING POST!!!!!!!!!

UNBELIEVEABLE, and its on PAY TV!!!

Unfortunately though, that would be towards the beginning of "Australian I can't sing even if it could bring Barry Sheene back to Life" and they don't want to move that. Besides, traditional structure for AFL finals in Wk 1 would be Fri Night, Saturday, Sat Night and Sunday (there was a 1 off in 97 for a funeral that I couldn't give 2 hoots about).

Ten races into finals row
By Michael Lynch, Adelaide
March 26, 2006

FOOTBALL could be wiped off Melbourne television screens on the first Sunday afternoon of the finals series to make way for motorsport if a row over scheduling of a key round of the V8 Supercar championship is not settled.
Quote:
"We have a contract that says we have precedence over the AFL even including finals," Cochrane said yesterday.
Quote:
Should Ten have to telecast the motor race, the AFL would have to schedule a Sunday twilight or evening game to get it on television.
Quote:
V8 chief executive Wayne Cattach said a new television deal should be finished within three or four months.

I dont believe Sandown will move the event. The week prior is the Vic State round at Sandown, and isn't the following weeks AFL finals anyway?

There will be some sort of compromise, perhaps the race might start earlier, and an AFL game will be put back further, but not so far back that it ends at 11:30PM.

kmsport has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
AFL fixtures will not change. Even for a V8SC race.

Why wouldn't the AFL have put an 'us first' clause in their contract?

If TEN are advertising the race as September 1-3 on their telecast, it's obvious to see where their priority on September 10 lies.

What a perfect marriage, the Vic state series, supported by the 500......

Believe me, if the SRS has to be moved it will be & the recalcitrant SRS committee will finally learn theirs is not the biggest show in town.......

Did this para make any sense to you?

Quote:
The V8s are hesitant to return unless the Formula One date is not moved earlier in the year and can be used as a testing event for teams, not in between championship rounds.
The first bit says they hesitant to return unless the date is 'not' moved earlier - IOW they don't want it moved forward; and then go on to say they don't want a date 'in between championship rounds'!!

I love the "common sense will prevail" from Avesco. If they are so confident in a Fathers Day event working, why dont they put up the money ?

Nervous times for 10, passing on a AFL final to 9 would be worse case scenario.

The Sandown 500 has been held on Father's day many a time before, what's the issue really!!

I know lots of dads that would love a day at the races as a father's day present.

Nope, Only Sandown meetings in September is on the 14th (Wednesday) and the 26th (day after the AFL GF). They race at Kyneton on the Friday of the week if they move it forward with Flemington/Benalla on Saturday and Cranbourne/Hamilton on Sunday. On the advertised 500 weekend, it is Moe on Friday, Moonee Valley and Ararat on the Saturday and Bendigo and Pakenham on the Sunday.

The real question is: did Tony Cochrane really believe that, despite what may have been written in the contract between VESA and TEN, that the sport was going to get priority over the AFL? Little chance of that, in hindsight.

Cochrane has backed down. This will make him look week enabling any Network wanting to cover V8 Supercars holding all of the aces.
