Hey, safety workers! How hard is it to clean up that junk?
No need to run away, just pick it up, OK?

They definitely need to take some lessons and go and see the Monaco safety workers...

Need to spice up the show because nothing is happening?

This track (or its surface) is useless IMO.
There is debris all over T8. The Formula W had a similar stoppage. The track is generally crap though.

Welcome, welcome, to LITIGATION LAND. You must be 21 or legally responsible to join the rides, and you must have deeeep pockets if you want to ask people to lay their asses on the line for you.

Cynicism aside: they do things differently there. I know this because I had a call from a mate earlier who was out trackside and made some interesting observations.

Unfortunately I can't really clue you in on what they were!

Yeah, maybe learn from the MILLIONS people have been awarded for slight injuries at a track and then open your mouth. You look like an idiot speaking before knowing the ground rules.

And before you respond, it's drivers who won't respect flags that make it a problem. Don't believe it, look at the released cars at FULL CHAT past corner workers who were still on the track today.

A lawyer is currently suing the CAR OWNER for an incident at the DEALERSHIP SERVICE department. Oil change tech didn't know how to start a manual, stepped off clutch with it in gear standing outside of the Jeep so it "lurched forward" and killed another service worker. Yeah, they're suing the CAR OWNER who wasn't there and gave the car over to the dealer for service. So you think a guy getting hit on track or even slightly at risk ain't gonna draw a lawsuit in a VERY litigious state of Florida

Willie T Ribbs finally getting some racing due was nice, better than the twit they started the show with.

Generally race was garbage as expected, track was nothing like originally proposed due to litigation limiting the spread. Remember that come time for Vegas.

Have the Sky guys always just guessed about what's happening on track? Assumed they travel and so were on site given the interviews but it's like they were only watching a monitor. Missed yellow flags being retracted multiple times, missed who was under investigation for incidents and generally seemed to be watching a completely different race

Take it easy, please.
I didn't call you an idiot and I don't like being called one either.

Just look at how the marshals work at Monaco and compare that with what they did here.
Only one of those are impressive, and that were not the ones we saw today.

On balance enjoyed the whole Miami weekend and vibe - race itself was nothing special though. I expect that the track surface will become more user-friendly over time.

Whilst the hyped up atmosphere no doubt seemed OTT to many of us, it is very much the way things are done in the US and what the audiences there are used to - so a case of catering to the market and ultimately gives the race a different vibe.

I expect that there must be more to the story than we've seen so far with the alleged refusal to add Tecpro or some kind of buffer to the wall that Ocon hit - must say that it looked like a pretty obvious need from the lounge chair at home. Don't have a problem with enforcing the jewelry / underwear requirements - they've been in place a very long time and clearly the FIA feels that it's beyond time to get that back on track - really only think that it's a big story because Lewis is standing firm.

Well-executed race by the Red Bulls and the Red Prancing Horses - lot of daylight between those two teams and everyone else again. Think that those attending would have enjoyed the experience and be back for more in the future, which has got to be a positive for F1 generally.

There was a VSC, though - I'd have thought it could have been cleared under that. I was only watching the highlights, though, so maybe some other reason?

It seems to be very dependent on geographical location, which suggests it is often more just a thing people can latch onto to complain about the place rather than it being sincerely about the track feature in question.

Not a great race, but some interesting moments with a great atmosphere and it was good that, despite the drivers concerns, there was only one major crash in the race

Great battle for the win between Max and Charles. The key was Max getting ahead of Carlos at the start. Decent battle for third between Carlos and Checo too, shame Perez pitting for tyres under the SC didn't have the desired effect, could have been the perfect revenge for Saudi

Great recovery from George, beating Lewis again. But Merc still have a lot of work to do to catch up to Ferrari and RBR. Good drive from Bottas again

Shame Mick threw away the chance of his first points in F1 with that collision with Vettel, that was his best race this season till that point, he was comfortably ahead of Kevin this weekend. But it was good to see Albon in the points again and good mature weekend to 10th for Stroll.

The incident between Gasly and Norris was just a typical racing incident, neither could do anything else there

Badlands99 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Pretty awful circuit, pretty awful race! Rated a 2 at best!
Cannot stand these contrived race circuits - 'mermaid' in a pool in the paddock - really! A harbour and boats with no water? WTF!
They should have really spent much more time, effort and money in making sure that the circuit was ready and suitable for racing and not worried about all of the additional rubbish that really has no place at a F1 race weekend.
The only saving grace was Danica Patrick - at least she know what she is talking about and sounded interested.

Sainz and LeClerc were very well matched last year (that's how i remember it anyway), but Sainz has quickly fallen into the subservient no.2 role this year at Ferrari. After 3 bad weekends, then I suppose a 3rd place and holding back Perez was pretty decent by comparison.

Russell is driving well. Good race pace even if qualy went badly this time. Hamilton might have been miffed about strategy, but 5th / 6th is the best that Mercedes can do unless something goes wrong with the other teams, and Russell gambled on a VSC and luckily for him it paid off.

Shame that Bottas had that moment - he is doing good things in that car.

Messy in the lower reaches of the top 10 and behind that. The low grip off the racing line punished drivers for quite minor mistakes.

Schumacher threw away all his hard work with a silly, unnecessary and desperate move - if Mazepin did that sort of move there would be uproar. Felt sorry for Vettel who had worked his way up through the field and was on for points.

Not much of a race really, even on the highlights. I guess the people there (who only just outnumbered the 'celebs') enjoyed the experience. I'm disappointed for Carlos, there's a very discernible gap now between him and Charles, which I confess I hadn't expected. Max looked pretty untouchable, even the advantage of DRS couldn't get Leclerc into a decent overtaking position. Felt sorry for Lando, but couldn't work out what happened there.... I'm still convinced that George is the real deal. Drove an impressive race in a car which we know is nowhere near the top two teams (accepting that he lucked into the VSC advantage).

Miami Grand Prix 2022: Grand Prix Weekend Thread - Round 5

I think any doubts about George being the real deal have been removed. Still the only driver to get a top 5 in every race, despite the Merc not being good. The fact he has made great recoveries from mid grid in the past two races gives the lie to the ‘Mr Saturday’ nickname he was given. Just wait till Merc have got the car sorted….

Re Lando Gasly had steering damage from the Alonso contact (that Fernando was penalised for) and had problems steering the car at low speed (and he had just run wide)
Not Lando's fault and no official blame to either is my understanding.

George had a lot to do with making his own luck.... maybe the highlights didnt show it but when his guys wanted him to pit he basically told them he wanted to continue on the hard rubber as they had not degraded or lost much pace, in the hope there would be a VSC / SC he could stop and take advantage of. Pit wall agreed to his request.. Yes it was lucky that (the VSC) happened but he had himself specifically asked to delay the stop in the hope of that eventuality.

George has really impressed me this year.

I was really hoping for a Russell vs Hamilton fight for the championship, I think GR is good enough. Mercedes have put paid to that though. Still, they'll get it back at the front at some point.
