Edit - Didn't I pick a good time to join in on the thread. I hope the extraction of Nakajima is not a sign of bad news on his part. From the tweets it looks like the #8 didn't sustain major damage, but has there been any word on Jarvis yet?

Somewhat of a heavy impact looking at the front of the Toyota.

In Europe the race is due to be shown live across Europe by Eurosport 1 and Motors TV with a combined reach of over 399 million homes. Additionally, the entire race will be shown live by Austria’s ORF Sport Plus channel, Belgium’s RTBF (first and last hours plus a highlights show) and live news on TV2 in Denmark and n-tv in Germany. The host country for the fourth round of the WEC, Germany, will also show highlights on RTL, interest undoubtedly increased with the addition of F1 driver Nico Hülkenberg to the driver ranks of the WEC. The Netherlands’ RTL7 and Sport1 plus Switzerland’s SRG/SSR will also show highlights packages.
In the Asia Pacific area, Eurosport’s multiple territories will show the race live and as a highlights show to its 25 million viewers, while China’s Letv will also show the whole race LIVE to satisfy the ever-growing interest in sports car racing, which is attracting more top names as well as manufacturer participation. Australia’s Fox Sports will show the live and follow it with a 52’ highlights package, while New Zealand’s TV3 will take the highlights – there are four Antipodean drivers competing in the Belgian round, attracting much focus in the Southern Hemisphere. J-Sports in Japan and Sony6 in the Indian sub-continent will also show the traditional warm up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans live and as highlights to a potential 58 million viewers.
FOX Sports 1 in the USA – which had superb viewing figures for the 6 Hours of Silverstone – will once again offer the opportunity to its 100 million potential viewers to see American team Tequila Patron ESM Racing and actor-turned-racer Patrick Dempsey form part of the non-stop track action in Belgium. The first 2.5 hours of the race will be shown live on FOX Sports 1, the next 2 hours on FOX Sports 2, and the final 1.5 hours back on FOX Sports 1, while FOX LATAM also broadcast 3.5 hours of the race to 43 countries and a potential 100 million viewers in Latin America.

I hope ByKolles have got some spares. Trummer has reportedly crashed out there and limping back to the pits.

Finally watching the ELMS Silverstone round--in full HD, class act by ELMS.

What a race. After the amazing (seriously possibly the best endurance race I have ever seen) WEC round and now this ... I am practically drooling for the Spa race.

A few shots taken at the scene of the incident:

(source: @LaurauxMatthieu / Automoto.fr / TF1)

The damage to the Audi is said to be "substantial". I guess we won't see it run during FP2.

Good thing is that Kazuki is apparently fine.

I'd have to say that nothing was learned in this session, since it's not supposed to rain. The times were slow and most teams only turned a handful of laps. The times of the Audis and the #2 Toyota showed that they weren't pushing knowing that what they find out in FP1 won't translate to race day.

Hopefully FP2 will by dry so some representative times can be laid down.

You can see the F1 focus on Autosport headlines: Lieb leads wet practice for Porsche, Hulkenberg fourth...

IDK what we can take of FP1 given the weather and all, but glad nothing serious came out of that clash involving Nakajima. Well other than Audi needs quick fix if the damage is as described...

Very disappointed by the lack of RLM coverage, the least amount of Spa 6h/1000KM coverage since they started covering LMS I believe...? Is this how it's now going to be for all non-LM/Silverstone(/CotA) WEC events now, or just this since Laguna is conflicting? Even though in the past they have had simulcast second radio service, like for LMS Hungaroring / ALMS Mosport and LMS Imola / Nurburgring 24h, so... ... they started gradually scaling back ELMS to just race broadcast a while ago, maybe now for WEC too. At least there's Q on stream

Hard to tell who came off better in that accident.

#8 Audi for sure will at least need the right rear corner replaced. And reportedly the damage to the #1 Toyota is so bad that they're replacing the tub on that car.

The Toyota won't run in FP2 due to replacing the tub, and the #8 Audi may be questionable as far as running in FP2 depending on how long repairs take.

You can get a good view of how messed up the right rear of the #8 Audi is.

Glad no one was seriously injured but looks like both cars are going to miss significant track time. Anyone know what the forecast is for this afternoon - is the track likely to be much drier?

Something tells me that if the track stays wet, most of the LMP1 teams won't go out at all probably. Only the #7 and #9 Audi have been out so far.

EDIT: Both Audis have had enough after 5 laps.

If the race is wet then I don't expect Audi to do well at all. High downforce spec cars will be the way to go.
