Have had a message from someone who was at the auction to say that the Sprite buyer was a member of the sellers family....

Have a look at Morgan Moss Box Plus 8's only 484 cars made and only 233 pre 1969 cars and loads you can do with them now they can take on some monster money cars at a lot less money, they are good value for money if you can find one, knock the shocks back and drive it to the pub

Can't work how the conversation went from Elites, Alfa SZs and 356s to Morgan Plus 8s! The latter is from a different era- late 60s at the earliest and isn't eligible for all the Pre 1966 big events like Goodwood Revival, Silverstone Classic etc. Don't think ever raced at Le Mans either, so LMC out. They only get into Spa 6hrs because of Eau Rouge Trophy, and this year the two fastest and best prepared were beaten by a couple of 240Zs.
So a good car for HSCC Historic Road sports and Morgan Challenge..... Last edited by Mike Bell; 4 Dec 2013 at 07:38. |

agree with Mike.. if Richard Thorne and other Morgan dealers are anything to go by they are 80k which seems indulgent for a car for 70's Roadsports....

Iconic as the transporter and cars are, I can't help but feel the (motorsport) world has gone mad!

Agreed Peter, but the video still brought a tear to the eye to think it's going over the pond. If that was a Turner (the JMW variety) there would be a national outcry, and it's no less significant a loss to these shores.

but not Tatty Turner?
Colin you are right but maybe the lorry (fantastic though it is) is not quite a national treasure. It was an indulgence by a team owner back in the day.... Notwithstanding that there have been cars that could be deemed national trasures - to start the ball rolling - the Hamilton/Rolt C Type |

Certainly a magnificent vehicle and, sadly, a loss to see it go to the US - but, £1.8 MILLION!!

Here! Here! Simon. Definitely a matter to go to war over. It should be enshrined at Westminster (or Coventry) along with the Walker/Whitehead car. Possibly the Hawthorn/Bueb or Flockhart/Bueb D-Type as well. Should we add a Syracuse Connaught? |

I know what you're saying. Put in perspective, and you'd need to borrow the Hubble telescope to view it, most commercials of that era would struggle to make £20K at auction.

perhaps the more interesting discussion is how much should a racing car be worth when it is build up from the chassis plate. Chat at Coys last night suggested that the Sprite was not the only woodman's axe....

Catalog description of Tojiero Jaguar prototype quoting letters from J. Tojiero confirming which parts of it were authentic (chassis included) did I have to admit, make me wonder a bit.
Whatever the case I was at the auction and it certainly did at least look the business! Was an interesting sale on many levels. |

Dick Skipworth speaks . . .
For the none of you that need a reminder of why the Ecurie Ecosse team and it’s iconic transporter are so important, Bonhams assembled this marvelous video with some little-seen racing footage of the team in various years of competition.
Footage of Ecurie Ecosse in Action. |

What's the yellow car on the left at 2-15 into the vid? It looks modern whereas the film itself looks period 50s.

The footage is clearly period, but I don't think that the yellow object is a car. From its position on the circuit, could it be a traffic island with some protective barrier around it? The accompanying Goodwood video about the transporter sale confirmed what Mike commented on earlier in that the Sprite was bought by one of the family - Dick's son. He claims that he didn't know that he was going to bid. So at least one of the EE cars stays in the UK. |

Jeepers !, that is pretty blurred... difficult to ID the yellow apparition. Pure conjecture ... a marshall or official's fibreglass bodied special ?
