Is anyone else still waiting to hear either way? I haven't received anything yet but don't want to be annoying and ring up if there are a bunch of letters still to be sent out.

Richard Duvall should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I'm in again. After doing it last year for the first time I said "fine I've done it but probably won't do it again". However, I did volunteer and am looking forward to it; just hoping it's not so hot as last year.

Reasons for not doing it again:

1. Lousy post allocation
2. So long between races
3. Confusion where posts were (on new bit)
4. Noisy campsite
5. Traffic jams trying to get away afterwards.

Why did I volunteer?

It is the most prestigous race event of the year in Britain!

re Mr Duvall

1 - it happens, but hopefully not too often
2 - its FIA , it happens
3 - should be resolved, the paperwork last year was some of the best about explaining the inside/outside bits
4 - see 1
5 - should have been there in Mansell mania years, before the bypass.
Last year was a doddle in comparison. Left at maybe 7ish. Used to always wait till after 8pm.

like you tho, I'll be back - went in the post today.

Car or person pass and for how many people? Your guest pass(es) count as a campsite pass to get your guest onto the campsite on foot.

Additional car passes are usually available from IMSA nearer the time (limited number).

Additional campsite "people" passes can usually be obtained at sign on.

Thank you I was asking about another car pass as my guest will be arriving at a different time to me

Send an email to the address at the bottom of your invitation letter, and explain your situation. I did this last year, and received and additional car pass. As Piglet says, I suspect that numbers may be limited.

A quick question from a newbie to the GP. If I bring someone who has bought a spectator ticket, will they be able to camp with me? Or is the wristband required for access to the campsite as well as the track?

Do you mean just them,in person, on your plot, or coming with a separate car and tent/'van?

I would think that would be fine, as long as you accompany them in. I would email and check though, just so you can say "i was told it was okay" if anybody asks. Might even be able to a separate pass so they can come/go during the day, too. Again, I'm guessing really, so best to get in touch and get an official answer.

A wristband is required to access the campsite and checks are made. Notwithstanding this, it might be prudent to get official confirmation as stated above.

You can get an additional campsite wristband. You should be able to get one at your sign on or from Penny Norris in the marquee on the campsite on Thursday.

Actually, that's a point, I don't think anyone has mentioned for the benefit of newbies, that sign on is on Thursday, so you need to plan to be there on Thursday afternoon/early evening rather than turning up on Friday morning. Sign on times vary for each discipline and you'll be issued with a tabard and other relevant "stuff" at sign on.

Another piece of possibly useful info for newbies, on Sunday night the traffic leaving the event is unsurprisingly very heavy, the Marshals campsite feeds onto a one way system that is also fed by a number of other campsites/carparks so it can take a while to get out. If you're planning to leave on Sunday night, it's worth thinking about sitting it out for a couple of hours until the traffic has cleared - blag dinner off someone who's staying over! The other advantage of this is that the one way systems will have been removed and you get more choice about which way you go when you get to the main road. I haven't left on the Sunday night for a couple of years but someone should be able to give you an idea on when the traffic usually clears.

Last year(my first) I hit the road almost as soon as I got back to the campsite at end of day. Joined the queues and it was quite a steady slow movement until I got to the A5 at the end of the one way system; I guess it took me an hour to get that far and by then they were removing the traffic control from that junction which left it much to the goodwill of those already on the A5 to get in. I'm probably going to take the wait option this year, especially as I will be towing a caravan instead of camping.
