If it doesn't happen, I can foresee that Phoenix date moved back to September so there's a race that month. From what I read, one track in Europe is "in," they're talking to four others and it has to be a "two-fer." Johnson's comment when he announced the initial schedule was "within two weeks." It can't be going easily.

what I heard: Assen would be the one that's in, and the tracks in contention are Zolder, Hockenheim and Le Mans.
one site (champcar.nl) today has a story that Zolder will be confirmed this weekend. They don't mention any sources though, except for "wellinformed sources" |

Le Mans (Bugatti circuit) and Hochenheim (in its current configuration) do not excite me at all...
Zolder...not sure...the general layout doesn't excite me, but I don't know much about it.... Also, seems pretty close to Holland of you're going to do a "two-fer" in Europe..... Maybe our European friends would like to comment on that circuit.... |

Zolder Tim? Has a few good corners, and as you may know, was the host of the Belgium Grand Prix when they were not at Spa.
If they are gonna race at Belgium, SPA SPA SPA, but that's on the 2007 F1 calender I guess so... |

The Zolder Circuit indeed is great, in former days used by F1 and DTM, today only the European Truck Series is racing in Zolder.
And unfortunately the race track got famous for the crash of Gilles Villeneuve. http://www.circuit-zolder.be/ Assen in the Netherlands and Zolder in Belgium are fine but the the two tracks are located to close to each other... so I don't think this will happen... Hockenheim... I don't like the new layout too - It's not exactly brilliant. And the old highspeed straight line is demolished, so it's gone for ever. But on the other hand the track is easily to reach by highways and owns new and modern facilities and grandstands... |

Thank you all for the knowledgeable insight, I'm excited, too bad I can't be there but it's nice to know people who will be. Take notes.

I'm probably the only guy in the world that doesn't like the Brno circuit. I just find it too 90 degree left right, left right and flat in places.
The first DTM race there, there wasn't that many fans, but the second year was promoted alot better and I seem to remember there being many fans. TBH I have said this before, but I think a race anywhere for Champ Car could be a big success, as long as they promote it well. |

In 2007 the Final round of the FIA-GT will be hosted. it's also used by Belcar, which runs a 24hr race on it. Heikki Kovalainen set a time of about 1.10 on it last year, in the R25 F1 car. Ambitions are to bring back F1 in 10-20 years, but I don't see that happening. Zolder would be a great track for the drivers, but... it has a big issue dealing with large crowds. the paddock is very narrow, and to get to the main Grandstand, you have to go through it, with the majority of the people using 1 of 2 stairways, and ALL people having to cross 1 bridge. also, they tend to put a lot of stands in the narrow part of the paddock. this causes big problems at the events which draw a lot of people. there were <50.000 people at the Renault event last year, which is about half of the average F1 event. (allthough they added a grandstand at the Jacky-Ickx chicane.pit entry). so if you want to go sit in the main grandstand, take that in account. there are other great viewing spots, though, so you can basically ignore the crowd that being said, I do hope the rumors are correct, and if so, I'm definately going to be there |

I agree on Brno - it should really allow the drivers to stretch their legs, and it has plenty of elevation change as well (74 meters, or 240+ feet, to be exact) which is nice.

European drivers that I have corresponded with love racing a Brno...supposedly, it also draws good crowds to events there.

You obviously spoke with the wrong people unless you consider a 25k crowd for the A1GP race that Enge almost won good

The new Hochenheim isnt the old one, no arguments there however the new layout does offer overtaking even for F1. So with the new aero friendly CC, I would hope they try and get a run there.

Not sure how good Miller's info is, but looks like Zolder is out...and nothing else has happened yet.

I wonder where Spa will fit in...
Last weekend of July = FIA GT August 19 = Le Mans Series September 16 = F1 Not a chance they will race there 1 week ahead of F1. |

Among the three mentioned by Miller I would love to see Spa, for obvious reasons, but as Stranger points out it would probably be too close to the F-1 weekend there, so I'd have to cast my vote for Hockenheim. I don't think Le Mans Bugatti would suit Champ Car at all.

I hope it will be Zolder (and I have heard strong rumours of it being confirmed), but if they need to upgrade to get it, I don't think it will happen. Zolder did major works last year, spending a lot of budget. and with even bigger works happening in Spa for F1, I doubt Zolder will get extra budgets from the RACB (or whoever may decide on that) for Champcar. |

CC might "prefer" it, marcel, but the second part of your post indicates to me that you agree with Milelr that it's unlikely for the same reasons.

well yeah, but the way you've put it, it sounds like CC already ruled out Zolder

What about the new europeen races? The rumors are cooking high, serveral reports are floating - but nothing is confirmed officially...
One thought: So it appears more than likely that Paul Stoddart will start a team or buy in, at least partly backed by Muermans, I think we will see the race in Assen... Maybe I'm wrong and after all it will be Zolder. The point is, I wrote it before in the thread, I don't think both will be happen, simply because the distance between the race tracks in the Netherlands and Belgium is only about 290 Km/180 miles (3 hours with a car) No kidding. It doesn't make any sense to run both races. Remembering back in September - also Oscherleben was mentioned. In my opinion it's more realistic (geographically and economically) to run a second race in the middle or south of Europe to get as much fans as possible... |

The geographic question makes sense to me, carsten, but it's my understanding that Assen is in but they hafta find a second race over there somewhere to make financial ends meet for promoters and expenses. Zolder may be their only choice when it all gets sorted out or the European deal may fall through because another deal can't be made.
