From a marshal's perspective (one of only 1800, so a tiny group comparatively), RLM was indispensable this year, even more so than usual. We relied on RLM to get us up to speed, so to speak, before our shifts. Surreal to hear the first report of Rocky's accident as we were walking through the woods from the campsite to go on duty at 11 pm.
And thank you thank you thank you RLM for helping keep us awake during the long safety car for that incident -- funny how it's a lot easier to be alert when you're monitoring green flag action compared to waving a yellow every time a safety car shows up. The RLM guys must have suffered the same kind of adrenaline crash but maybe I need to invest in some of that energy drink they were using because they never faltered. Loved the full rundown we had time for during that session, as well. Allowed us to cross off the retired cars from our Maine Libre broadsheet at the forward flag station so we knew who we weren't looking for anymore. Two small niggles -- and they ARE small. 1. We went to the village three times and never found anyone selling the little RLM radios like in previous years. We were fully prepared to purchase some for the non-iPodded newbies we had with us but couldn't find any. Was anyone selling them this year? 2. Please try to remember that at Le Mans not all English speaking marshals are British! (Says possibly the only Canadian marshal there...) Thanks again, RLM. A l'annee prochaine! keke |

Great job - will download and listen again in a week or so.
The radios were for sale at the gate on the outside near the Ford Chicane but a winge (and return for refund) from my two newbies was that the didn't work in the Peugeot grandstand at all - they were told that the signal was blocked there - although it worked fine on my MP3 and my brother's... |

There were loads of the radio sellers around on Saturday morning.

Thought that coverage was excellent as usual and to keep going through hours of safety car action was great. Only real issue was with some dodgy reception, especially in T34 where french commentary kept over riding RLM.

I had some dodgy reception too. It was a little weird.
And I had to stop listening for a bit because Le Rant just went on too much. Of course though it is indispensable and entertaining. Top job by Paul Truswell as usual. |

Only problems with reception I found were down at Mulsanne, but I expected that.

Yes, that was the only place I had any problems - I took that to be the effect of the electrical pylons overhead.....

I found that one too, depending on the angle I held my radio at, I either had Radio Le Mans, French commentary, a mix of both, or nothing.

Every time I hear that song being played on the radio makes me think of (Radio and/or the 24 hours of) Le Mans and it puts a smile on my face. Don't ever change the 'hourly update' tune please!!!
