First went in 1969, then again in 1970 but with cine camera. Great memories of JWA/Gulf GT40s and 917s. Saw them filming for "LeMans" film and took Cine 8 film myself of the Porsche camera car in action. I still go there with Gulf Oil International and once again will be there this year.
Those earlier days though were the greatest...the variety, the speed, the noise and the sheer brutality of the cars in those days. Wonderfull. I still love it all though, and the facilities are so much better now. GT. |

I am turning a nasty shade of green reading gt917's experience of seeing the 917s racing in anger. That must have been an amazing time, the footage I have seen definitely backs up what you are saying about the variety, noise and brutality of the cars. Somehow a silent diesel Audi cornering like its on rails just doesn't cut the moutard.

Get thee to the Classic... OK, you don;t have as many, but last year we had 4 917s running... HARD!
They all got beaten by a 512s... Last edited by Tim the Grey; 5 Jun 2009 at 11:25. Reason: memory! |

I'll try for next years and aim to bring the family as a gentle introduction to Le Mans.

Ah, there are two sets of results for LMC. Scratch, and Index. The Capri may have won on index, but I doubt it won on scratch!
