good catch, Jag. never would have seen that.... this could raise the question; is it time to slow the cars at Indy again? i know it's time to change them . |

Field, I'm one of those who think that 200 MPH racing between cars with speed differential is just fine...Mears v. Johncock.
Selling that notion is unpopular, but so long as wheel protection is included in the next formula than the reduction isn't imperative. At this point, I'd say that not taking every step to prevent launching cars is negligence. Swift doesn't seem to agree. They read the memo before and just got another on their Facebook page. People are quick to dismiss incidents like this, and they have a short term memory of the effect. There are too many reasons why MIS and Charlotte fell off the map. That was a bullet dodged today. |

those kinds of accidents are just freaking scary all 'round. as always on Memorial Day weekend, there were a quite a few hard hits today. all but Conway were completely unscathed, correct?
in the end, it is Indy where the drivers will always be in a little more danger than at most other circuits the world over. however, having the fans safe is paramount. |

That fencing certainly did the job.

Gotta disagree bjohn, the catch fence was breached. It has happened before.
Field, it was a safe day and a safe month overall...nobody else got airborne. The gearbox structure change made a couple of years ago has been the big difference, as it is now an effective crush zone for all of the rear end impacts. Headrest and cockpit padding have constantly been improved. A lot of major hits, nobody else suffered more than some bruises. They just have to keep them on the ground, and the cars and SAFER barriers make the rest of the risk acceptable IMHO. |

I saw a clip of the cheese grater at work on the last laps.
Have to say we've been here too many times before and nothing has changed really. I'm sure someone will have some excuses, but....really. While it worked out well, a few quarter seconds here or there and it could have been curtains for someone. |

Conway's chassis took out RHR's camera, a foot above his head.
Conway drove up on him when Hunter-Reay's car slowed dramatically, starving for fuel. Reinbold didn't have a chance to warn Conway in time. About the bogus black flags: "If you're on the inside half of the race track when you're overtaking someone, that's not blocking. If you're on the inside of the track when someone is overtaking you, that is blocking," Barnhart explained. "So we're trying to open the inside half of the track up for racing." |

[DRRIndyCar] Additionally, Mike has a compression fracture of 1 of his thoracic vertebrae & is being fitted for a brace, which he will wear for 3 months.
[DRRIndyCar] Mike is recovering from a five hour surgery yesterday evening to repair the fractures to his lower left leg. [DRRIndyCar] Here's the update on Mike Conway from Indy Racing League Director of Medical Services Dr. Michael Olinger... |

A 5 hour operation, makes my broken ankle pale by comparison; a speedy recovery, though he could be out for the rest of the season.
