That is sad, seeing what I always thought was one of the more successful categories in the country end up running with only 10 cars (and only one of them within a second and the others all three seconds or more off the pace.)

Most of the mainstays of of the catagory have, or are, moving on. Not to mention those who are hard at work, setting up for the next incarnation of the catagory with the turbo diesels.

Yes, I'm not that surprised that the grid is so poor.

Worth noting that a few of the state-based production car championships have declared that the utes are eligible to run with them, with minimal changes (I think just a couple of parts needed to be swapped back to stock items).

Anyone else see Samsung is sponsoring one of the Sieders owned 86's? Interesting. I'm with Umai a lot of the teams are downsizing these rounds to better prepare for the next phase of the series

Couple of tyre failures for Coulthard and Lowndes. Bit of a hard hit in the Caltex car, looks like they've got a bit of work on their hands.

Here is video of the Lowndes shunt. It was a pretty nasty one. It happened at about the same spot he and Bowe had that massive crash at back in the 90s incidentally. Last edited by simonracer; 21 Apr 2017 at 04:33. |

Insurance job apparently. According to the commentary during P1 today. LDM have both cars insured. Skaife and Crompo said it was unusual and usually only seen in lease deals in junior categories. Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk |

At $8k-$12k/round, its a big outlay.. in this case perhaps better spent on the upgrade of the chassis? |

I got it.. thinking aloud..
The excess on these kinds of insurances are usually pretty high. One I saw a few years ago in AGT was a $50k excess! Cheaper than losing a $450k car, but youbstill have to find the $50k... and source a replacement car/parts/people to fix it.. Quote:
Total loss accidents are (thankfully) rare in Supercar. Balancing the cost of insurance with the cost of a total loss including excess, its a financial tightrope. Perhaps the difference between sourcing the sponsor/choosing the driver, and running a customer/paydriver operation |
