SSmith should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

I really did expect more. Based on one lap pace, Loggie was 1.4 seconds off Stanton in Quali, 0.6 secs off Stanton in R1, and 1.5 secs off Stanton in R2. But, as I said earlier, I do question sometimes whether Stanton should really be in the Am class. Compared to Sherwood he was slightly better, 0.3 secs off in Quali, 0.3 secs off in R1, and 0.6 secs off in R2. His crash with Nigel Rice was a bit weird, and not what you'd expect from two very experienced racers.

You should realise that the Carrera Cup Porker is very different spec. to drive compared to any GT version.

Yeah, you actually have to drive a Carrera Cup car, can't rely on ABS & TC to do the skilful bits for you.

You’re right it isn’t what you’d expect.

Maybe just taking a little bit of time to acclimatize?

I think you're probably spot on there.

It seems to have been a one-off appearance (for now) so the (likely) British GT champion also doing a round of Carrera Cup GB midseason and causing a collision will probably become a weird, but interesting, footnote in history.

Its a shame in a way there isn't anything else like it on the support race package, the last thing approaching another saloon / hatch tin top series was the Leon Cupra series and before that you may have to go as far back as the Vectra V6 Challenge.
Trophy cars aren't £30k. JCW ones yeah, not the slower club level spec Trophys. Hell I was even looking at racing one and I self fund all my racing.

Two changes to this weekend's entry list for Carrera Cup GB.

Nick Jones has joined the Am field with Team Parker, presumably replacing the absent Justin Sherwood. He's a regular competitor in British GT with Team Parker in a GT3 911.

Scott Malvern has joined the Pro field with Team Parker, presumably replacing Pro-Am driver Charles Bateman who has dropped off the entry list. He is Nick Jones's regular teammate in British GT, they've had an ok-ish season thus far. Last time we saw Malvern in Carrera Cup was as a substitute for Dan Cammish at Snetterton in 2017.

New class sizes: Pro = 11, Pro-Am = 6, Am = 3

That is great news! 3 Bristol Street Motors backed cars now. Having never heard of them about 2-3 years ago, that company seem to be everywhere now! If Chilton can sustain his better form, could we see a BSM-sponsored Hyundai 1-2-3 before the end of the season?

For those keeping notes, Turkington is still in the old car and likely to stay in it for the rest of the year as the other car still hasn't been repaired yet. Seems WSR are having difficulty getting body panels from BMW. Apparently there certain panels that are simply not available to buy

IIRC - didn't Plato once have to get a roof panel from a car in the car park to complete a weekend?

I vaguely remember that! Was that when he rolled the Chevrolet Cruze at Donington in 2011?

I'm surprised that you don't recall hearing of the company until recently as it is one of the oldest car dealerships still trading under it's original name, having been started in the early 1900s to sell Ford vehicles.

I seem to remember that during the 1960s that Ford sometimes entered saloon cars under their banner, similar in a way that Dagenham Motors was also an entrant at times, even though the cars had nothing to do with them, being built, prepared and maintained by Ford's competition base at Boreham.

Possibly it means that the section/s required are only a part of a full shell, rather than a simple panel that is readily available.

I don't know specifically which panels they need but from what I understand they aren't available to anyone. If you have an accident in your road car it may be written off even if repairable simple because the parts aren't available.

There's a suggestion that they may have to source the parts direct from the production line, but's easier said than done.

It's nice to have Oliphant back but a shame he's in the worst car on the grid (the Cupra formerly driven by Glynn Geddie which Jack Goff refused to drive for this year).

Did he ‘refuse’ to drive it? Or was that an excuse as to why he wasn’t in the BTCC this year? I’m not fully convinced….I think funding was an issue.

I’ll be interested to see how that car goes with Oliphant behind the wheel. Is that car better or worse than the Astra? About the same I’d suggest.

With current global supply chain issues and automotive industry being really affected by that, it doesn't say anything about WSR's relationship with BMW I think.
